Connecting Rooms at AKL

My in-laws will be coming with us in August. We're staying at the ALK for the first time. We booked standard view rooms and put in a request for connecting rooms. Has anyone ever stayed in one of these? I was wondering if they were located in a specific area of the resort, or if they are scattered among all the standard rooms. I'm a little nervous about staying in a standard room b/c of the view/location, and we're debating upgrading to a pool view. We can't do the savannah view unless they come out with a code during our stay.
