We were recently at Disney and are considering joining DVC. We went to the models and had the initial meeting. We were told we had to decide before our trip was over to get the current incentives. We weren't comfortable with making a decision so quickly. We wanted to come home and do some research on our own.

So, my question is.....if we decide now to become members can we still get the current incentives that are being offered?

As long as the same incentives are still in place, you may be able to get them in the future. On January 15 there will be a price change for AKV and minimum purchase is changing for BLT - so unless you act prior to that time you may not be able to get the same incentives you were offered recently - at least for those two resorts.

At times in the past, when there were different incentives, DVC did hold steady to the time for incentives and they have refused to honor incentives past the 3 day deadline. It's possible they could return to that policy at any time. regardless, once you have signed the paperwork you still have a 10-day period where you can rescind the offer without any penalty.

Good luck with your decision! :)

Not true. We went on the tour and didn't purchase. Our guide even told us this. We were locked in...dont remember the exact amount of time, but when we purchased at HOME we got our incentives. And this was just a few months ago.

If they said you needed to purchase them now, that sounds like a pushy sales person. I would ask for someone else.

We were told the same thing. It certainly did not set well with me; and at least with the current incentives, it does not appear to be true.

It's kind of like our guide telling us that sales are booming. I don't believe that either with the current economic situation. I know he is just being a salesman; but a salesman needs to "read" his client and know when to "turn off" this talk.

We visited 2 1/2 months ago and still have not purchased. We are still thinking about it and are honestly scared that better incentives may be coming. I mean they rolled out the developer points only one month after BLT went on sale. That tells me that things did not move as fast as expected.

Typically one incentive that is held to the 3 day purchase period is a better interest rate. I don't know what the rates currently are, if you were offered an incentive on one, or even if you are financing through Disney. But, that was one item that was not held over from the initial 3 day buy period.

Are you both suggesting that if you wait until after January 15 that you will get the same price for AKV and/or be able to purchase BLT at the 160 point minimum for a new purchase?

DVC incentives change all the time and without warning most of the time. I would suggest taking as much time as needed on this decision; it is not something to be rushed into, nor really for the incentives IMHO. It is a large purchase for a very long time. Only when you feel 100% certain of your choice should one be made. Once that is done, whatever incentive comes or doesn't come after your purchase you will be satisfied! Just my .02

No. We were told during our tour that we would not even get the $5.00 off per point at BLT if we waited too many days (can't remember how many.) This is simply not true. We were just stating in our post that we did not appreciate our guide telling us this, since it is now obviously not true.

I think that this is what the OP is also talking about.

DVC has had incentives previously that expired within 3 days after taking the tour. If they told you this, I'd speak to a supervisor and see if it's true. It very well may be. Certainly any special financing has tended to expire within 3 days of a tour. This is exactly the reason I posted recently to someone not to take a tour if they were planning on buying at a later date but not on the tour.

We were told the very same thing just last Thursday. Our guide looked at a calender and wrote the date our incentives would expire on the paperwork he sent us home with. He said the incentives were only good for 3 days. From everything I have read on the boards I was kind of surprised, i was under the impression that one could get whatever the current incentive was regardless of when they took the tour.

Unless there has been a policy change (unknown to everyone that posted above) the general current incentives are available to anyone that makes a purchase fitting those general public incentives.

The "3 day" period, or what ever you guide told you, is the maximum amount of time you are guaranteed to receive those specific incentives in the documents. In general there are always incentives, but the incentives may be different if you wait longer (greater required minimum points required after Jan 15 is known at this time) It is possible that an interset rate may not hold up after your 3 day period, also.

I am sure they will push a decision deadline because most people are procrastinators. They know the longer you wait, the less likely you are to sign and return. There are a few exceptions, but in most sales fields, most people will not buy if they wait more than 3 days...

Maybe they are now making that policy...I personally had never heard of that before until recently, now I've read it several times on the DIS. If it's in writing, I'd go with it. Just my .02

2 or 3 years ago there were a number of reports about this issue and several who pushed very hard and were still not given the incentives. I'm thinking they were mostly related to cheaper financing but don't recall for certain.

What about buying a resale from some timeshare resale company? I've seen some pretty low prices per point for places even like Boardwalk.

Does anyone know how often those actually sell to individuals vs. Disney exercising their right of first purchase on them?

The Timeshare Store is a sponsor of this site. There's been many positive reports about them and a few other major resellers, and it seems to be a very good value if you can find a contract you want (size, Use Year, remaining points..)
If you buy through Disney you have certainty (no ROFR which means a much faster closing if points are available) , available Disney Financing, and contracts to your specified size and matching your existing use year.

There are supposed to be to main threads one on cleared ROFR (disney's Right Of First Refusal) and one on ROFR'd contracts.

Last I heard, Disney was not too actively ROFR'ing contracts, but that was a few months ago that I read that...

A friend of mine just purchased 50 points from the resale company and his transaction went through smoothly as well as getting a pretty good price per point.

i took the tour in 2006. i back out of the contract then. i went back in 2007 one year and 6 mouths after the tour. they had my information in the computer and my ex guide name no problems with ex guide i just like doing business in person so i went to dl took a look at a ssr model I signed the contract i got my dp points, $8.00 off the points. and if i bought the 200 pt contract i would get 2 ap to either dl or wdw. i think they will still honor some incentives to you so don't lose hope. i did my research within that time period and decided that dvc was right for me.
