Confusing....

I was hoping somebody could help me understand somethings. We have 2 contracts. One for 290 at AKV and the other for 100 at VGC. We have a Dec use year.

We made a reservation at the 11month mark for VGC in a studio for 98 points. We thought we would try for a 1br and wait listed it. I chose the option to take the additional points from the AKV contract. We got our wait list (yay) but then a few weeks later I realized that they took the additional points from the VGC contract (Oh no)! I called MS and they said they couldn't change it. They said that I shouldn't have been able to create a wait list with that option(although it was clearly there) since it was a week shy of the 7 month mark. Well, if I knew I would have had to borrow from the VGC contract, I never would have done it. We make this same studio reservation every year for the 1/2 marathon weekend and now I'm not sure how we are going to make it for next year. So has that ever happened to anyone else?

My second question is that we have 190 pts for AKV unused in our Dec 2012 use year. If I bank them into next year will they use banked points before using the ones that drop in Dec 13? We have made a reservation for a week in March 2014 for a 1 BR savannah view at AKV that is costing us 272 points. It shows zero points available for 2013 and 108 points available for 2014. My question is, if we bank the 190 into 2013, will they put them towards the reservation that has already been made? Would that give us 380 points and since our reservation is for 272 points, would we still have 108 points in 2013 and then they would restore 2014 back to 190?

I hope this isn't as confusing as it is in my brain. We are trying to determine if we should cancel the AKV reservation, bank our points and then make the reservation again so that we can put our 2012 banked points towards that new reservation.

Someone please explain this to me.....my brain is spinning! Thank you so much!

I can't help you with #1 but I've done option #2 a lot. If you already have the reservation you made in the 11 month window at your home resort and then bank more home resort points, call MS and ask them to reallocate the points to use the banked points first. Depending on the CM, sometimes they will question it in case you are trying to use non-home resort points on an 11 month window reservation. But as long as they are all the same resort, it can be done and it will free up your current year points.

Something does not sound right in your description.

Wait-list creation will ask you to confirm if you are willing to borrow points and wait all the way to 31 or 7 days. There is no way that, if there is no software bug, DVC will simply make you borrow VGC points without your consent. Maybe you did it too fast and clicked that checkbox without reading it?

I think the problem is that for any reservation made at the 11 month mark, you HAVE to use home resort points. You can't borrow AKV points until you are at the 7 month mark. Since your place in line at the waitlist is dependent on when you put your request for the waitlist, then I think that's what determines where they're going to borrow your points.

This is also why you can't "reallocate" points for ressies made at the 11 month mark.

There was an arrow pull down and it listed both of our contracts which is why we chose AKV. We wouldn't have done it if the only choice was VGC. We chose the 31 day option.

You got on the waitlist during the home resort priority period, you have to use home resort points. If you wanted to use non-home resort points, you have to wait until 7 months to get on the waitlist.

if you are at the 11 month window for VGC, it's the same as if you don't have an AKV contract. for a VGC booking, the VGC contract is all you can access at this point.

a software bug might have made it look like you could, but you cannot jump in front of VGC owners with AKV pts under any circumstances.

I'd call and talk to a supervisor. make your case that you agreed to a certain option (using the AKV points) and not to borrowing the VGC points. The issue is that for a WL that started in the home resort window, only home resort points should be in play. It does present an interesting scenario though.

This is very instructive and something I'd never thought of when setting up a wait list. I will remember this the next time. I hope everything works out for OP.

There is no way you can use AKL points for VGC before 7 months. Is your original reservation for a studio still available? If you cancel 1-bdrm since it used VGC points you might end up with nothing.

Also, The system may not have given the option for ALK points as you could not use them before 7 months.

That was the problem...it did give us the choice of using the additional needed points from the AKV contract. That's why we are in this mess. Apparently that shouldn't have been a choice at that time. We didn't know it shouldn't have been there since this was the first time we did a wait list.

I made my waitlist over the phone. I am in the 7 months but I requested to use OKW points not AKL for AKL stay. The waitlist does not verify that the request was made. I hope they get mine correct if the waitlist comes threw.

xmom, I hope they clear up yours or at least give you the studio back.

Call Member Services. They should be able to apply the bank points to your reservation. HOWEVER - You will end up with 190 points in 2013 and 108 points in 2014 since they will not be able to restore the borrowed 82 points from 2014.

If it was a glitch as described OR the OP did not authorize to borrow (either one), they should restore the points to their original UY. Of course that's the question we really don't know for certain.

Just wanted to let anyone know that reads this thread, the executive office of DVC called me today. They did see the glitch in the system and that we authorized AKL points to be used, not VGC points.

They have ironed out the problem or "challenge" as they referred to it as, and all is well. We will now be able to make our annual reservation as usual and the representative was great about educating me on how to best use my points for future reservations. She was also able to reallocate some points so that the 190 points my husband banked two days ago can now be used for our March 2014 reservation and we don't have to borrow from 2014 use year. (Our use year is Dec)

Just wanted to let you all know that if there is a problem, let them know. They were very helpful and did everything in their power to make it right. I am happy with the Disney Customer Service!! She made my day...matter of fact, made my week!!

this is really good to know-- we are in the process of buying and were getting nervous that customer service might disappear after you ink the contract

Some things will change after you buy.

The secret is learning the system and knowing who to talk to. That's why I refereed the OP to Member Satisfaction.
