Confusing reservation situation

Sorry in advance for the long post. Here's my situation: Had a travel agent book a preferred room at Pop for me and my family end of January/beginning of February (DH and twin sons who will turn 7 on our trip). It is our first trip and of course I have been planning planning planning to make it perfect for my boys.

The other day I received an offer from Disney Visa for room discounts. I couldn't reach the travel agent and I called to see about prices to stay at a moderate or deluxe resort. Since my travel agent made the reservation, my reservation was not accessible to the person I spoke with. I was given a price for POFQ that was not much more than Pop and wanted it. I was told that they were almost booked up and that I should put a courtesy hold on it. So I did.

I called my travel agent the next day and told her that I wanted to switch to POFQ and that I had the reservation on courtesy hold. There were no more available rooms at POFQ w/ free dining so she couldn't just switch. She said if I cancelled my ressie for POFQ it would go back to rack rate and not be available for free dining. Also said that if i went with the POFQ ressie and cancelled the pop ressie that I would lose my insurance. I was pretty bummed and called WDW myself. Spoke to someone who checked with guest services and said that all the travel agent had to do was call and have the new reservation transferred over to her and it would all be good.

FF to today and travel agent called WDW and the guy she spoke to REFUSED to make the change. TA is going to call again tomorrow and will likely have a 3 way call to hopefully get this done.

Any thoughts on whether I'll get the reservation I want? Has this happened to anyone before?

If the Disney Visa discount was for a room-only discount there would be no way for you to keep your Free Dining. You cannot stack discounts. You would have to decide which is a better deal for you, Free Dining or the Visa discount. This may be why there are problems just "transferring" the reservation.

Correct. You can get a discounted room only reservation and no free dining or you can pay rack rate for the room and get free dining. You need to figure out which way would be better for you.

This is also why I now prefer to do the ressie myself, in lieu of a travel agent. I feel I have more control over my reservation and can make changes as I see fit.

I didn't book a room with the visa discount bc it was a better deal with free dining so that isn't the problem. Wasn't stacking any discounts.

I think maybe the TA needs to call a colleague, and find out the protocol to transfer reservations. When I transferred a reservation to a TA, I had to fax in a request to him, and he faxed it into a certain number at WDW. It wasn't a matter of calling.

The above poster is correct. Transfering a reservation to a travel agent isn't a call it's form. The TA would have a form that would be sent to you to fill out and the TA would send it to Disney. It takes about a week or so for everything to go through.

I'm wondering if you used an authorized disney travel planner. Because if you did they should know that!

That's why I never use a travel agent and book things myself. I don't want anybody telling me I can't make changes to my own vacation reservations. No thank you. I will do it myself.

Now if I were going on some multi-country world tour I might get the assistance of a tour planner but that's about it.

Well, all was straightened out. Both my TA and I wrote letters to WDW and had the new reservation switched to her and all is good.

But, now when i log onto WDW I see both reservations (for Pop and for POFQ). Have to have TA fix that.

82 days!!! Woo hoo!!!
