confused re: early entry vs. extra magic hour

One of us is confused... I've never heard of an evening extra magic hour. At one time, Disney called the extra hour in the morning the Early Entry Day. They discontinued it for a while and then brought it back as the Extra Magic Hour -- still in the morning though. With the addition of Animal Kingdom in the rotation, the schedule is different than it once was.

They do sometimes vary the closing time of the parks, apparently in relation to expected attendance levels. This, to my knowledge, has no impact on which park opens early that day.

Hope that helps. :D

Hmm... I probably just saw the post that created your confusion -- sounds like things might be a little up in the air... For now, I'd stick with the Disney published days for Extra Magic Hour. If you're going in the near future, you might just want to ask when you get there if they're switching anything around, both at your resort and then again at guest relations in the park.

It could be they just higher than normal attendance that one day so they extended the hours on an impromptu basis. If it happens again, I'm sure people will report here on the boards!

I would LOVE it if on-property guests got a few more perks for all the $$ we spend!

They still have:

(1) Extra free magic hour in the morning for resort guests only

(2) Impromptu free extending of evening hours for everybody.

(3) E-ride night, extra cost evening hours for resort guests only.

And they are going to experiment with

(4) Extra free magic hour(s) in evening for resort guests only.

A given park may have on a given day:

(a) none of the above

(b) just one of the above

(c) #1 together with one of the others.

As far as I know, only Magic Kingdom has had #3.

Actually, I think they called it Surprise Mornings. And it was 90 minutes early at three parks (none at AK).

Disney will be experimenting with Evening Extra Magic Hours during the month of May. During that time, EMH mornings will follow an altered schedule. The EMH schedule and parks will be as follows:
Offerings by Day of Week (May 9-22)
  • Sunday - Epcot (evening)
  • Monday - Animal Kingdom (morning)
  • Tuesday - MGM (evening)
  • Wednesday - Epcot (morning) & Magic Kingdom (evening)
  • Thursday -Animal Kingdom (evening)
  • Friday - Magic Kingdom (morning)
  • Saturday - MGM Studios (morning)
For evening EMH, onsite guests will need to obtain a wrist band before the parks close. Guests with multi-day passes and APs do not need to visit the EMH park during the day in order to use EMH that night. Guests with single-day passes do.

I like this idea and hope Disney decides to keep it up, at least until my visit in July. My children are reaching the age where they would rather sleep in than hit the parks early to avoid the crowds. I think this is Disney's way of competing with Universal's Front of the Line access for onsite guests.

Okay...just making sure. I am not sure this will even be in place when we go in June, but I am assuming UPH tickets allow you to go in the evenings and not be in that park that day?

Thanks.
