Hi all,
Thinking about heading to Disneyland for 4 days. Trying to figure out the benefits of booking a package vs room only?
If I stay at the Disneyland hotel but buy 2 day non-hoppers, do I still qualify for magic mornings or must I purchase the 3 day ticket?
Please help this WDW pro turned DL newbie lol

If you stay onsite, you get early entry/magic morning everyday it is offered. This is a great perk! You can also use Disney vacation planning to help you with room requests, dining reservations, and to answer general questions. They can be reached, via email, at vacationplanning@disneyonline.com

Staying at the Disneyland Hotel qualifies you for the extra morning hours. So you get early entry every day you have a park ticket for. Tue, thurs, sat at Disneyland. Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun at DCA

Magic morning are only for those purchasing 3 day tix, and only at Disneyland park, not DCA

Have a great trip!!

Also, if you have Costco, you can book through them as well (in their travel section on their website). I like using them because you get a free $20 Disney gift card + a free character meal with your package (and a few other perks and treats). I also like it because you can pay off the trip over a few months (kinda like layaway). :) You can feel free to PM me with questions or reply here if you have them.

Package benefits:
You can get your room, tickets, vouchers for character meals, and transportation all in one price on one invoice. (meals and transportation are optional).
You also get extras, such as luggage tags, voucher for pin/lanyard, voucher for a free photo, and coupons.
If you book the package with a Disney Visa you may also get a nice, insulated, tote bag.
You can use the Disney Vacation Account (DVA) to pay for the package and earn a bonus $20 gift card for every $1000 you spend on qualifying purchases out of the account.

Room Only benefits:
You can purchase your tickets from an authorized discount ticket seller.
You may be able to get a discount on booking the room through Orbitz or Cheap Tickets.
You cannot use DVA to pay for room only reservations at DLR.

All guests staying at one of the three on-site Disney hotels get early entry every day to whichever park has EE that day regardless of where or how your room/tickets were booked.

Honestly, I prefer the room only reservations -- it allows more flexibility for cancellations and changes to the reservation, just in case something comes up at the last minute. You have all the way up until 5 days before your arrival date to cancel without penalty of any kind, and you can book a one-night only stay (if that's what you wanted to do) with a room only reservation. Most packages usually require at least 2 nights, and they have different limitations and timelines for when cancellations or changes can be made without penalty.

I once booked a package that I had to cancel -- I think it was maybe back in 2008 or 2009 -- and ended up losing out on $100 of my money due to the limitations/timelines involved with the cancellation. If I had booked a room-only reservation at that time, I wouldn't have had that problem. So it has been room only for me ever since then!

In the old, old days, packages used to save the guest a lot of money vs. buying tickets and hotel rooms separately. These days, a lot of the packages are often more expensive than what it would cost to buy tickets and rooms separately.

Sorry to steer off track, but do you need a Disney confirm#? I've used DU as my TA and I can't seem to find usable Disney Confirm # on my "account". Do you have to wait until 30 days out?

If you are trying to make requests, you should be able to give them you name, phone, and travel dates. They should be able to find you from that info. A Disney package invoice number will begin with a "P". These are the only invoices you can find online (to pay, verify, etc.). You can also call the hotel directly to make requests.

You save NOTHING now getting a package deal. I never understand why the packages are more enticing now. I like to book separately these days. They should bring back some kind of savings to book packages.

When staying onsite you get the perk for any day you have a ticket (the ticket gets you in the gate, the hotel keycard gets you in *early*).
