This will be our first time in SAB. I'm reading mixed reactions as to how deep the lazy river is, 5-12 feet is what I read. Can someone who's been there please respond. I find it hard to believe that it is all that deep with all the small children around. Any other lazy rivers are only around 3-4 feet deep. If this proves to be so, I'llstay in the beach area .

At Stormalong Bay, the lazy river goes as deep as 8 feet though it is not that deep for very long.... Its highest point is 4.5 feet deep and mostly stays around 5-6 feet. You will not find that many small children (0-6 yrs old) around the lazy river that often and there is nothing to worry about b/c there are two lifeguards watching over the entire lazy river at all times. If you have any other questions about Stormalong Bay just let me know as i am a lifeguard there.

Oh, also, i should tell you that if you have some small children there are two great areas for you to head over to at SAB; 1: the slide in the pirate ship (no, not the big one) it is a small slide that goes into a pool that is only 3ft deep. 2: the giant quiet pool (though not so quiet) that only gets to 3ft deep and is mostly 2ft deep.

I'm 5'8" and can't touch the bottom of well over half of the lazy river. It is NOT set up for younger kids, or non-swimmers.

I'm 5'11" and I can't touch bottom. My husband and son love SAB. I prefer the BCV quiet pool.

Plus it has a heck of a current. You get tired out trying to walk against the current in SAB.

I agree; Lazy River is really a misnomer (and I'm a pretty strong swimmer).

Hi all... how long does it take for one trip around the lazy river?

You know, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes? I have no idea how big this thing is.

Cass--Probably about ten minutes or so a lap.

It is very deep in the middle of the current. I would not describe this part of SAB as a lazy river. It is a section of the pool that makes a circle around an island, that has a swift current and is very deep in the middle. In fact when you come down the steps into the current the last step is a doozy. I have seen many people step off and immediately go under. The current is swift enough to seperate anyone trying to stay together also.

I would not recommend this area of the pool for anyone that is not a good swimmer.

I wonder if the strength of the current is adjustable. It was gentle in most parts last week except under the bridge and by that stairway into the deep section. It seemed like a few jets were turned off entirely and some were stronger than others. I found the current to actually assist swimming--I am not a great swimmer--because you could just float on your back and get pushed along. The sinking sand was turned off for most of the time during our stay, too. I took advantage of the various sitting ledges built around the side of the lazy river. It was nice to swim and sit, swim and sit, and watch the world go by....

It's always stronger in the two areas you describe.

And Sammie's right--this is not a good place for people who aren't strong swimmers.

This may be a stupid question, but, if it's that deep, how do you get into your inner tube? Is there enough room, near the steps, to try to hold the tube and get in? Every "lazy river" I've been in was only about 3-4 feet deep! One more thing...can you bring your own inner tube or do you have to rent one from them? Thanks! :D

yes there are steps that you can use to get into your inner tube. there are two stepping areas... one is by the shallow end and one by the 6 foot area that is near the quiet pool and the "cool" hot tub. You can bring your own inner tube but i haven't seen that many people bring them, and if they do they are usually pretty small and made for younger children.
