Hi,

Have been a member for a few years and I still get confused on when I can borrow!!

My use year is December. I currently only have 15 points remaining in my current use year. I will receive 200 in December, 2010.

I would like to start thinking about a trip for February 2011. If I book next month for my home resort do I only have access to 215 points or would I be able to borrow from my 2011 allotment?

Also, I would ultimately like to stay in a 1-br at AK (not my home resort). Could I book a 1-br at VWL (our home resort), even though there are 5 of us, then switch over to AKL at 7 months? Also, when would I call for that, is it 7 months from when I would be checking in? I know there have been some changes and I kind of forget.

Thanks for your help!

You are now in your December, 2009 Use Year. For a trip in February, 2011 you will be in your December, 2010 Use Year and could use points banked from the 2009 Use Year, points current from the 2010 Use Year and also borrow from your 2011 Use Year - and that may be done in March, 2010 when your 11 month priority begins for the dates you want.

For non-home reservations you may call 7 months from the arrival date at the non-home resort. You can make a home resort reservation at 11 months and then try to change to another resort at 7 months - just be aware that any borrowed points cannot be returned to their original Use Year - so be sure to use those for any resort change if the new reservation will use fewer points than your home resort reservation.

Enjoy! :)

Thanks for the clarification. I am going to print this out and put it with my DVC stuff b/c I am never clear on this!:confused3

Dec UY is always hard because, you are at the end of the calendar year, but at the beginning of your new year to get points.

So everyone else has already used up their current year points and you are just getting yours.

I agree. I think if we had it to do over again I wouldn't have wanted December, but we bought resale so didn't have much choice. Oh well, it's still DVC so it's all good!!

Actually those December 2010 points are already in your account. If you look at dvcmember.com, you should see December 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012. Points use is based on date of stay. You look at what use year the date of stay falls into, those would be considered current year for that reservation.

I am glad you asked this? I was wondering the same thing ,We are going in May and I wanted in OCT this year and we were not sure how this All works ,We also have Dec Point add.:cool1:

Sorry for hijacking....but this was a good question as our DVC has a Dec UY...so this info helped me a bit too. The only thing I am unclear about is if you 'borrowed points' and change/cancel ressie, what happens to those points? why can't they returned to their original use year?:confused3

Borrowed points will stay in the UY it was borrowed into and expire at the end of that UY. DEC. 2011 UY point are normal good from Dec. 1, 2011 to Nov. 30, 2012. If borrowed they become 2010 UY points, good from Dec. 1, 2010 to Nov. 30, 2011 and will expire Dec. 1 2011.

Why cant we put the points back? Mostly because Disney tells us you can not do it. Borrowing is a final transaction.

That is also an issue for those who borrow points for a trip close to the end of their Use Year.

With a December Use Year, if you borrowed points for a trip in October or November, the borrowed points would still need to be used by the end of November or they will expire since they cannot be banked and cannot be returned to their original Use Year due to the firm policy for that transaction.
