Confused& Disappointed About Photopass

can I hijack for a sec? I didn't buy the Photo Cd. Can I still get one or is it too late now that we are home? I already accessed the phoptopass card on the website, and trimmed the photos. NOW there are lots that I want, of course.

Anyone know?

Photopass CD website but you will not be able to do any borders/signatures.

At first glance, the $99 seems expensive, but when I consider that they give me the copyright and will let me keep the original files forever and print them out much cheaper at home

That's what I was thinking when I saw the price... You're not just paying for the CD itself, or any of the other things already mentioned (photographer's pay, camera purchase, etc.). You're also paying for the right to use & print those photographs.

I think it's a decent value for the CDs, as long as you get a good amount of pictures taken by them. (I wouldn't buy the CD for only 25 pictures)

ETA: WDW should add the general locations of the photographers on their map, so people can find them.

Has anyone ever seen Photopass photographers in World Showcase? We didn't see any there.

Yes, the best picture we got on our last trip was in the France pavilion.

Actually, I think the CD with worth it to buy if you have 10 or more photos you really want to buy because individually they are about $12.95 each.

But we had 50 taken but many were duplicates or I had taken the photo myself so I only wanted to buy about 3 so we did not buy the CD.

so if you get the photopass cd in the parks, you can have added cute stuff but not if you order online? It just took me an hour to add signatures or borders to 60 photos online. Wouldn't the line in the park be HUGE while people take an hour adding cute stuff to their photos for the CD? Or is it no longer possible to do at the parks either? If it is, I wish I knew somneone in the Orlando area. I'd pay them to go add cute stuff for me, and mail them my photopass card, lol. Oooh, I wonder if it would no longer work at the park now that I accessed it at home!

I guess I could try to add things on my own before printing or something, or just crop and print plain.

Thanks for this thread, OP. I am following closely, while I try to decide about the cd.

No, they no longer will let you do borders/signatures on the CD photos even if you buy it before you leave WDW. It was too time consuming.

I don't know if it's too late to get the CD in the park now that you've accessed it at home. I do know that once you access them online, they are only there for 30 days and sometimes extended a little longer.

Most people just buy the CD and then add cute stuff themselves.

I agree that if they include the ride pictures and character meals it would make it a better value. I purchased the $99 cd last trip but not sure I would do it in the future. We had 72 pictures over an 8 day trip, most of which came from Epcot Character Connection. It was nice to have eveyone in the picture but at a glance most of them look the same except for a different character in the middle. I did like being able to add the enhancements off the internet.

A photopass employee(are they WDW employess or do they work for Kodak?) told me they were trying to hire 300 additional photographers so they could expand the number of locations they were at. Locations we had pictures taken included:

Animal Kingdom
Tree of Life
In front of the entrance sign

Magic Kingdom
Mainstreet
County Bounty Character Greeting Area

MGM
Hollywood BLVD in front of the Hat
Tower of Terror
Character Greeting under the Hat
Al's Toy Barn Character Greeting

Epcot
Epcot Character Connection
Space Ship Earth

Unless they include the rides and more locations I think I am tempted to just hand the Photopass Photographer my camera as well as the card each time and save the $99 to purchase prints off the internet.

That's a shame, when we were there in 2004 there were photographers in a lot more "around the park" locations, like by Splash Mountain and such. We were going to think about the CD but if it is just the entrance and character pics, we'll probably just buy the MK print and stick with pics from our own camera.

We were there over Easter week (yikes!) this year and we didn't have ANY trouble getting plenty of pictures. We had almost 200 on our cd (before enhancements)
After enhancements, which they were still doing when we were there, we had almost 400.
We saw photographers everywhere EXCEPT Epcot. We did have to look for someone to take our pic at Epcot, but it only took a few minutes. I loved having tons of pictures of our whole family!
That being said, of course Disney is making a freakin fortune off the cd, but they make the same fortune off EVERYTHING, and $99 to have all my pictures available to me instaed of paying $12.99 or whatever for each one I wanted was a great moneysaver. I guess it all depends on how many pictures they take that you like!

Rumor was, back in May when I was there, that they were wanting to eventually have photographers at the character meals and to link the ride photographs to the photopass as well. I hope this happens soon.

I love photopass. During our honeymoon we used it alot and ended up with over 150 pictures on the CD. When you think about paying $12 for one picture, I rather pay $99 and get 150 pictures. We got home and printed them all at Walmart and it was fairly inexpensive. It's also a great way to get pictures of everyone in your party!

We had 18 people on our last Disney trip and that was the best $99.00 we spent! Everyone was in the picture, the photographers got 10 kids (age 5-12) to all look in the same direction, and most of us were smiling!!

So how much are just prints?

I can see this as a good idea if it is expanded to include the ride pics, restaurant photos and pool/resort photos. Then I would see the price being a bargain!

I wish they had a pricing structure based on the content. Say under 100 photos is $25, and up from there based on the quantity. I dont think it should be $99 for a person with 60 photos AND a person with over 300, you know?

We bought our CD w/ 150-170 photos on it earlier this month. DH pointed out that he wouldn't bring our camera to the parks @ night anymore because it's tricky to get very much to come out, don't have to carry much of anything & you can still get some great shots from the photographers.

For anyone who is interested in getting the CD, be sure to tell the photographers you are buying it & most will take some extra shots of your group. They are trying to give people the most value for the $ so more people will buy the CD.
