Confused - Best Hotel Option

We're coming in August and will be staying in close walking distance the offsite. Breakfast included is also preferred.

I had narrowed it down between

• Park Vue Inn
• Desert Inn

...with more leaning towards Desert Inn for the cheaper price with nice room configurations (e.g. 2 rooms for a decent price). I know the breakfast is more minimal and indoor pool but we would compromise on those.

But now with the possible disruptions of construction, I'm wondering if the above are bad choices.

So other possible choices are

• Super 8
• Anaheim Islander Inn & Suites
  
• Desert Palms
• Grand Legacy

All are in price range, with Super 8 and Anaheim Islander being most savings but also the furthest (but Anaheim Islander also having nice room configurations)....and am even wondering if all of them are too far after a full day at Disney plus in the hot August month.

As a note, our kids are older at 12 and 8 when we come and thus, napping in the day is not something we would do...and not even sure we would bother returning to the hotel mid day.

Should we stick with Desert Inn? Or are we better with one of the other three (and if so, which one)?
It's our first Disneyland trip and thus don't know the hotels or can picture how long a walk it would take, etc.

I'd stick with the Desert Inn. Shorter walk at the end of the day,I'm gettin old though. The indoor pool has a heavy chlorine odor.

Ooh I like desert palms for the golden malt waffles. (You make your own...it always seems like a line but they are worth it.)

Casual walk back with the option of two stores in a row where you can buy water or beer or ice cream...not bad.

The problems are...

Nobody knows (including Disney) when construction will start, as the permitting process is causing a delay, and no construction can start until the zoning plan is approved (They can still demolish the Carousel Inn though)

How much noise will the construction make, and what hours of the day will they operate. I think with the delay, you will have work being done 7 days a week (Disney still wants this done prior to Star wars Land Opening in 2018.) Much of it isn't that bad, you have three main parts, the Pumbaa Structure at the corner of Disney Way and Clementine is the largest part of the project, followed by the bridge over. Harbor and the Carousel property. The third part, the new Transportation Hub and Security Check doesn't have much building, more the placement of pavement/cement for the vehicles,and setting up the Security Check Booths, which shouldn't be too noisy.

The Grand Legacy is next the Pumbaa Lot,so would be in the heart of the construction. The other three are near the corner of Harbor and Katella, and the walk for all three would be about the same, about 8/10th of a mile to the Main Entrance Plaza.

Since you are not looking for something fancy, go for the value, and since the Super 8 is next to the Anaheim GardenWalk, you have a good set of restaurants to eat at after the park.

How does Super 8 compare with Anaheim Islander? They are almost side by side.

Are the hotels you're looking at refundable? If so book your first choice & a construction alternative, then decide much closer in when you get a grasp on the construction situation.

Yes, since we are still 8 months out, we would only book refundable. So true, no harm just booking and then i'm sure someone will update the construction situation on here by the time we are ready to go.

So the Super 8 is ranked #34 of over 100 Hotels by TA,the Anaheim Islanded is 35th, so read the comments and looks at the properties. How is their breakfast like?How about the Pool areea?(And would you use it?), is there a parking fee?

The Desert Palms is a Hotel, unlike the Super 8 and Islander,which are older Motels. So you get interior hallways.

I can't really say more, I have stayed at the Super 8 and Desert Palms, but never at the Anaheim Islander, so I can't compare based on personal experience....

Thanks for the links. The two hotels certainly rate pretty close.

Reading the reviews, one thing that may cross Anaheim Islander off the list is that the breakfast seems like a prepackaged muffin. We don't need a full continental but would be nice to avoid having to buy one meal at the parks.

What do you prefer...Super 8 or Desert Palms? (Super 8 is almost a little too cheap that it makes me nervous)

Never been, but according to goggle maps, they are 1 minute walk apart...side by side. Park Vue is 1570 Harbor and Desert Inn is 1600 Harbor.

Desert Inn is our go to because of it's proximity to the crosswalk and normally cheaper price. It's not fancy, but the rooms are a good size and the breakfast is passable. We've never used the indoor pool, but it does have a very strong chlorine smell.

They are literally right next door. But since you would be going the opposite direction, that's probably why you didn't see it.

We stayed at the Desert Inn in 2015 and the walk was great. We are likely going to brave the construction noise and stay there again in 2017. I really liked having the extra space in the room. I never went down to see what they had a breakfast. But some mornings my husband went down and brought muffins and tea to the room for me. (We also bought cereal and milk at Target to help save money and time at breakfast.)

Lol... funny how they are literally next door and you didn't even notice.

Maybe we should stick with our original choice of Desert Inn and then change closer to the date if people complain of construction noise. Although we would need to pay in US funds (we're Canadian), it still has a great price being so close and what we're looking for)

Too funny! Not surprising I didn't notice though. I'm the type of person who doesn't notice things unless someone points them out. Weird, I know. Does Desert Inn have free parking? I loved Park Vue. Rooms not large but we're a family of 3 and it was fine for us. And hey, it is a little closer to the crosswalk
