Confused AP Rates

We decided to upgrade our park hoppers and get an AP last week :cool1:

Now I am confused about how the AP rates work. I logged onto the website, but the rates do not look that great.

Are there different rate codes? I have read things like, "AP4 is posted". What does that mean?

Thanks for any help!!

AP4, AP5, etc.. is a hotel discount rate.

I am not aware of any current discount code for purchasing an Annual Pass.

Last year, we purchased our Deluxe APs via the Southern CA AAA site (even though we live out of state) and saved $20 per pass.

AP4s expired in December. AP5s were not that great IMO. I think they are up at the end of the month. The rates are sometimes different than they are posted on the website, so it is worth a call to see if things have changed. I think they expire on the 28th.

Are you assigned a rate when you buy your AP? I guess I am not understanding the different rate codes

The rates I see on the AP website are HIGH. $260 for Disneyland Hotel, $360 for the Grand. :scared1:

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it!

I am watching for good AP rates, too. If offered they are done to increase sales during slower times (e.g. not summer and Christmas). And they will sell only so many rooms at those rates. So there are some AP rates that were active through the end of this month but they are undoubtedly sold out at this point. There have been no special AP rates announced beyond 5/31 and probably won't be for the summer months.

The number after the acronym AP (i.e. 4, 5, 6 etc) just seems to represent a current batch of offernings.

I do believe that AP holders do always get a 10% discount rate. Actually $360 at the Grand doesn't seem all that high to me. I'm used to seeing those rooms for over $400.

People told me not to get an AP for the hotel discounts and I think they were right unfortunately.

AP holders do get a standard discount across the board, but they often released amazing AP rates and those are the ones the codes are good for. The current rate is the AP6, you can call and ask if there are any rooms available at any of the hotels at the current AP6 rate, you have to ask for the AP6 rate by name or they will quote you the standard % off. We stayed at PPH in Jan. at the AP5 rate of $139 a night, theme park view! We stayed at the GCH last Nov. at the AP4 (or maybe 5) rate of $240 a night, DTD view! Those are the rates you want but I think they are likely all booked for the AP6 rate, it expires at the end of May and they probably won't offer another one until after August. HTH.

'tis true 'tis true!

The normal AP rate, the 10% or whatever, is a discount, but it's not a fabulous discount considering the rack rates.

Now if they release some incredible rates for the Fall like they had last year, then those are incredible rates! But you have to be planning to travel then, or easily able to travel then, to make it worth it.

On the other hand, HoJo's offers a 20% discount for AP holders. :goodvibes

Other than that, get the APs for savings in tickets for further trips inside the year, have fun with the food (and maybe merchandise if you got premium) discounts, and if you get a great rate at a hotel then it's a super-bonus.

And I will be willing and able and you guys are kinda getting my hopes up that this might be a possibility. $260 at GCH would be outstanding and doable for us! Wheeeee!

Thanks everyone, I get it now :)

I was suprised to see how expensive the hotels are! We were able to stay at the Grand in Nov. 06, using Expedia, for $180/night. Back then, I thought that was too high, but now I realize what a bargain it was, lol.

We are very excited to be able to go back at least once or twice in the next year.

Dh really wanted to stay at the Disneyland hotel, so I'll keep an eye out for that.

Thanks again, you are all so helpful!

Jenny, I love the quote in your tag. Very funny. :goodvibes

I hope they come out with great rates this fall! Last year I was a dingbat about it. I had a package booked for mid-September, from February of that year. As we were getting closer, but before our package was due in full, they came out with the AP3, or whatever number it was then, rates which were insanely good like 129 for PP, 169 for PP concierge, 199 for GCH, things like that. We were staying 4 nights at PP, and when I think about it, I realize that if we had dumped the package and gotten the AP rates, we would have saved bunches of money. Silly us!

But it was fun to have a package deal for our first trip. If we hadn't had that, then I wouldn't have the "fun" story of leaving the packet containing our package info (vouchers one needs to check into the hotel, 3 5 day parkhoppers, and so on) at RADIO SHACK the day we started our roadtrip down there. :scared: And what fun would my life be if I didn't have that experience? :rolleyes1

:upsidedow

Yeah, it's really not that great of a discount. But probably more depends on the time of year that you go. Total with tax our one night at the DLH next month, with the AP discount, is $310. It's a fun splurge, but but very pricey.

I may have done it......I don't remember. It's something I posted in the community board. We took the kids to the ocean for the first time when they were 5 & 3. My daughter just had to tattle on her brother for throwing sand into the ocean :)

Losing my mind at only 35? Is this when your memory starts to go? :) :)

I am ssssoooooo excited about getting APs and staying at DLH when they have one of their special AP rates. Lets hope I don't get laid off this fall!!!!! :goodvibes:
