Can someone help me I seem to be confused. :confused3

We own at the Beach Club we have 150 points.
We banked our 04 points we had 132 left
our use year is December so we will have 150 Dec 1 05
We plan on going to Beach club next year May 06
we are planning on making ressies next month for the last week of May
We want to be sure we are using our points so they don't expire.
If we do a one bedroom for the week it will be 252 points

150
132
total 282

We will have 30 left over that we should bank? Dec 1 05?
we are unsure if we will go in 07
will we lose our 30 points? if we dont go in 07
and how many points will we have to use in 08?

If so we will do a 2 bedroom this time so we eat up our points and we could borrow 32 from 06
will we lose the 30 points from 05?

so set me straight when you bank you are sending into the next use year right?
so is it that you have to have a vaction booked or have to use them by the end of the use year.

We thought we might use our points for a cruise in 07 but we are not sure

Sorry see why I am confused?

December use years are confusing.

Your 30 points from the 12/05-11/30/06 use year would be banked into the12/06-11/30/07 year. If you did not use the points for a stay or cruise by 11/30/07, yes they would expire, but you COULD rent them out if you wanted to. In '08, you could use any banked '06 points (which are mostly available to you in '07) plus your '08 points if you choose to.

Okay I'll stop you here. First of all, you should make sure all your 2004 pts from last December are used first for this May reservation. When you make your make your reservation they will use the 132 from last year, '04 banked points, plus 120 of your current '05 points, to make the reservation for a week at the end of May '06 using 252 vacation points.

If so we will do a 2 bedroom this time so we eat up our points and we could borrow 32 from 06
will we lose the 30 points from 05?

Unless you want or need a two bdrm this is completly unnecessary. Hypothecally speaking in this case you would not lose your 30 points and you can borrow from 06 if you want. Again, this is silly unless you need a two bdrm.

so set me straight when you bank you are sending into the next use year right?
so is it that you have to have a vaction booked or have to use them by the end of the use year.

If you bank points you are indeed sending them straight into the next use year. You have until the end of the year into which you banked some points in this case the 30 from 05 UY which will go into your December 2006 UY.

We thought we might use our points for a cruise in 07 but we are not sure

Okay if you want to cruise in 2007 you won't have enough points unless you bank all your 2006 and borrow all your 2008. That will give you three years of points to use for the cruise or 450 pts. But remember you can't vacation using points in 2006 because you already banked them. You won't be able to vacation using points for 2007 either since they will be needed for the cruise reservation and you won't be able to vacation in 2008 since you borrowed those points for the cruise vacation you took in 2007. That's exactly why you shouldn't use your points to cruise. You can get three lovely week long one bdrm vacations at WDW for the price of one 7 day cruise for two adults and one child in an inside stateroom (tight for more than 2 imho). In fact 450 won't even pay for the three of you and so one of you would have to be on a cash basis anyhow. At the points for cruises only go up and up etc
I say pay cash and enjoy yourselves on the cruise. If you pay cash you can shop for a good deal and you if you can't go for whatever reason you are not penalized ( with a reasonable notice period to Disney Cruise Line) and you don't pay $75 to Disney, for the honor of using their cruise line that everyone else gets for free, for an outrageous number of points..

Sorry see why I am confused?

I hope you are no longer confused. If you are send me a PM and I will glad to help you.

On Decemebr 1, 2005 you will have 282 points to use by November 30, 2006. 150 of those may be banked into the following Use Year, extending their usage until November 30, 2007. They must be used by that date or they will expire. You will get another 150 points to use on December 1, 2006 and they also will expire on November 30, 2007 unless banked to gain an additional year (11/30/08).

If you do not plan any trips during 2007, then the 30 points not needed for the 2006 trip can be used or rented as Diane suggested.

Use Year is simply the date you will get your points each year and does not affect when reservations may be made- except for banking deadlines and expiration dates.

Enjoy!

So if we do not plan on going in 07 I should either use up or rent the 30 points that will be left over from our 05 points.
That is what I thought.
I don't want the pressure of having to figure it out at the last minute.
I would be safe if I just used them and would have plenty of points of take a nice trip in 08 that would be left over 06 points points and 07 points which would be 268.
That is what we figured we would do anyway when we bought.
there are 3 of us and DS will be 13 I am sure he would love his own space.
he would not have to sleep on the sleep sofa.

We were originally bringing MIL and FIL for their 50th anniversary but MIL is not well and unsure how she will feel in one year.

I looked at the points for cruising and it is a bit much hard to justify
we have been on 3 cruises and have always got a cat 6 with a balcony
I wouldn't get an inside cabin I am a bit claustrophobic ( sp)?

I think I have it staight now?

Thanks for all your help : )

Once you get to your stay, bank the points to the Dec, 2006 use year. Then you can decide whether to rent them or possibly use them in some way. If you decide to rent them, an maybe some of your 2006 use year points, try to do so for stays between Dec, 2006 and May, 2007 to give yourself the most options and protections. OR you could try to "rent" by transferring the 30 points, something you could only do if you didn't bank them.

That was a thing of beauty!!!

Right on the nose.

I always suggest you make yourself a Use Year Calendar. For A December Use Year, your calendar looks like this:

Use Year.....Vacation Dates
2004.....Dec 1, 2004 through Nov 30,2005
2005.....Dec 1, 2005 through Nov 30,2006
2006.....Dec 1, 2006 through Nov 30,2007
2007.....Dec 1, 2007 through Nov 30,2008
2008.....Dec 1, 2008 through Nov 30,2009

Each Use Year will get it's regular allotment of 150 points assigned to that year.

You can bank points from any year into the next year, or you can borrow points from a following year into the preceeding year.

Once banked or borrowed, those particular points cannot be returned to their former Use Year.

Regular Use Year allocation points can be banked or borrowed.

You banked 132 UY2004 points into UY2005, giving you 282 UY2005 points (132 banked + 150 regular)

You are going in May '06 needing 252 points. Note from the calendar that that date uses UY2005 points. You use all 132 of the banked points + 120 of your regular 2005 points, leaving 30 regular UY2005 points. Those 30 points can be used anytime prior to Nov 30, 2006, or you can bank them into your 2006 UY and then they can be used anytime before Nov 30, 2007. If you do nothing at all between Dec 1, 2006 and Nov 30, 2007 then you indeed will lose those 30 points.

Your other option is to rent the 30 points if you can't use them, or as you originally suggested, get a 2-B/R for May '06.

Note that Icy-Dog made some mistakes in her reply. Any cruise in '07 (which covers the entire calendar year prior to Dec 1, 2007) will be using UY 2006 points, not 2007 points. Icy-Dog reply is only accurate if you meant a cruise during your 2007 Use Year, which would be calendar dates Dec 1, 2007 through Nov 30, 2008, but I think you were thinking of calendar year Jan 1, 2007 through Dec 31, 2007, of which 11 months are actually within your 2006 Use Year.

So you could only have a maximum of 180 points available for a 2007 cruise which is not enough. Thus your only real alternative is to rent the 30 points, get the 2-B/R as you thought, or try to find some other way to use 30 points (maybe for a local getaway somewhere)

After all of that, we have decided to stay an extra day in a one bedroom
that would work for us too!

We thought a 2 bedroom would just be 2 big and a waste and I know using our points for the weekend is a waste but I think this would work for us.
you can never stay too many days!

Thanks for all of your detailed responses it has helped me understand the DVC alot better

Lisa
