I have seen many posts on the disboards where people have set up their own Y.E.S. groups, coordinating with strangers (IRL strangers, anyway) to get to the required number to qualify as a YES group and do the program.
I have been planning with some fellow parents from my child's school to take a YES trip next year, and I just called to start the process of gathering information (pricing, etc) and discovered that the program has to be "approved" by the school in order for your group to qualify.
I don't think that my child's school will be in any position to approve such a trip. They would absolutely not want to take on any liability, and further, as a public school would feel that it sends the wrong message for them to approve an expensive trip that so many of the kids would not be in a position to afford to go on.
I am confused by the suggestion I got from the CM that without school approval, we can't plan this trip, because I can't imagine that the ad hoc groups organized here on the disboards had the approval of any school.
Can someone help me out, and let me know what I am missing?
If it is relevant, we would be a group with at least 15 children in the same grade all traveling with the specific intent of taking 2 YES classes specifically tied to the curriculum they are studying in school.
How did the other groups do it?
Thanks for your help!
