Confused about the whole thing....help please!

Oh ok I didn't realize you could use that many at one time. When you say pay for extra nights in cash, you mean you can add on like a night or two and pay rack rate....but you cant say pay half a night in points and the remainder in cash? I just want to make sure I understand.

That is correct. You cannot pay a night with part points/part cash. It's either-or.

For planning purposes, be sure you are looking at the charts for 2011. That's especially important if you are considering stays that are less than a full week.

For example, here is the 2011 chart for BCV:

2011 BCV Point Chart

If you can, buy a few more points than you think you will need - DVC has been "tinkering" with the charts due to an imbalance in demand. Generally, they've been increasing the cost for week nights and decreasing the cost for weekends. It balances out overall, but the increased cost of the week nights has upset those who have been taking mostly 5 night trips that do not include a weekend. It's costing them more to keep the same travel pattern.

Good luck with your decision.

You have got it. When you call MS to book a reservation, you can ask if there are nights available for cash. If there are, you would be able to book it. And, DVC members get 25% off rack rate at the DVC resorts if booking through MS.

Again, though, the rooms are not always available for cash and not always available for the discount.

If they were not, you would then have to seek other options, such as a point transfer, rent a few nights from another member and have that reservation linked to your own, or stay at one of the other WDW resorts booked the old fashion way through DR>

Disney also limits transferring. We are allowed one transfer per use year. We can either transfer points into our account, or transfer points to another account Once per use year.
Also, if paying cash, even at the discounted prices, can get a little expensive....depending on the resort and room, at least a few hundred per night.
