I have never rented a car before, so I went to mousesavers and also checked the threads here. There are so many codes and coupons that my brain hurts. I need simple directions. Can anyone tell me what the best place is to rent a car and what a good rate is? Also, do you really need a car in WDW. I've just used the Mears shuttle before and been fine.

We have always been happy with Dollar. They are right at the airport.

Do you plan on leaving WDW? If not, you don't need to rent a car. If you are planning on going to SeaWorld or Universal you can get a Mears shuttle from WDW.

I'm really not planning on leaving Disney property. The only reason I was thinking about is was because some people had rates that were only about $50 more than the cost of the airport shuttle. I figured if I could get a rate of just a bit more, then it would pay to have extra freedom to drive into the parks or go to a grocery store.

How does the Mears Shuttle work to go to Sea World and Universal from WDW? Is there a schedule, where do you pick it up, and how much does it cost? Thanks!

What size car do you need or want and how long to you plan on keeping it. I have always rented at the airport and have used National and Dollar a lot in the last few years. Depending on the size of car and such you can get rentals for as low as 100 or so dollars a week plus tax.

I am not so sure that anyone 'needs' a car in WDW, but I can tell you for me personally I would never go without one. They can come in handy if you plan on resort hopping or going off property to shop or eat or visit other locations. There are a number of people who never rent a car, while others like me would never go and not have one. It is really kind of a personal choice.
