So after posting yesterday about extra photography with the Memories collection, I was concerned about hiring someone else to come in. I emailed my planner and she told me if you do hire a photographer with the Memories package you forfeit the Disney photographer. HOWEVER, I ran my idea by her and she said that it wouldn't be a problem. So here's our plan...

My friend is a photographer and takes amazing pics. We live only about 2-2 1/2 hours away and he agreed to drive up there because of course, he's very happy for us.
He's going to come to the hotel room and take the photos of us getting ready, then go and get some of DF and our son getting ready. He'll take the limo with them to the site (taking pics too) and then ride it to pick us up. Then for the time of the ceremony and when the Disney photographer is taking them, he's going to do his creative thing. Then once the hour for their photographer is over. He will step in and take more of us around the resort, the beach...etc. My planner said that this was perfectly fine and she was glad that I had come up with a way to use both!!

Hope this helps some of the other brides wondering what to do! Maybe you can hire Randy (who everyone has been recommending!!) to take some before and after!?

Hrm such an odd response on her side I think its good that you have a plan to use both. But to say you would loose the right sounds odd to me unless they are going to reimburse you for part of it.

Well, I thought it was odd too that if I hired someone on top of paying for what was in the package, I would lose the Disney photographer. This is why I emailed her to confirm it. She said that if an outside photographer photographed the ceremony/during the one hour the Disney one is shooting, we would lose him or her.

I didn't ask about a refund on that portion, but I'm thankful that my friend doesn't mind hanging out for an hour. I just would hate to see another Bride hire someone and then lost the other photographer.

I think I read here that the outside photographer definitely counts toward your guest count too, right? I think that's the number one reason people aren't going with outside photographers for Memories, because then you are down to only 3 ppl allowed besides the couple and photog.

She said it wouldn't count toward the guest count, just that we would lose the photographer they would have provided us with. I don't see how they could take away a guest slot, if they are taking away the photographer too. Doesn't seem right....

hi! i know you don't want to lose your hour of photography from DPS, but i just want to make sure you know that you don't get the rights to those pictures, and you only get 3 - 5x7 photos included in the price. If you stayed with your photographer, I'm sure you would have all the rights to the photos for the whole time with the option of printing those photos much cheaper. You will have to go thru Disney to get the prints of the ceremony and it will be very expensive. We also feel the ceremony hour is very important and feel more confident with Jason's photography.

jason will count as one of our guests--no big deal since it's just the two of us, but they made it clear that i would forfeit the photography and that he would count as a guest--which i am fine with. sure it'd be nice to have duel photographers for a bit--but i'm willing to do it to have the rights.

Hi sweetie
It is true what Deena says. If you hire an outside photographer to shoot a 'Memories' ceremony, you lose your included DPS photographer and they will not refund any money for the element of the package you do not use. Their argument is that the 'Memories' and 'Escape' packages are sold as just that - packages and if you chose to not use an element of that package, that is up to you, but no refunds!!
Since your friend will not actually attend the ceremony itself, he would not count as a guest, but it may be wise to consider what Deena says about just having 3 photos from DPS, and not having the rights to any of them. the quality of DPS work is also very inconsistent. If you have the guest space, I would seriously consider forfeiting the DPS photography and having your friend shoot the whole lot if I were you.
Good luck

Unfortunately, We have 6 guests, since my daughter will be three at the time of the wedding and she counts as one. You dont' have rights to them, but you can purchase them correct?? I have my own editing program on my computer as well as a photo printer. In the past vacations, we've purchased the ones we liked and then I did my own editing. If we get the three 5x7 photos with it, we do have the option of getting the others too right??!! I think I'll be contacting my planner shortly then. If I don't have the option of purchasing all the photos I would like, then I would absolutely just ask my friend to do the entire wedding!!

You can purchase the CD with the copyright release for $500 or you can buy additional prints. Unfortunately when we had our VR they hadn't started offering the option to buy the CD so we could only buy prints, which got pricey FAST! If you just purchase prints you don't have the rights to them in terms of making additional copies or using them in a photobook etc. - you'd have to get the CD to have the rights.
