Confirmed New Security measures coming to Disney Parks

Witnessed the new security yesterday, first hand. CSC definitely knows what they're doing and the team they have at the parks were very professional. Chatted with a couple who were "randomly selected", elderly couple...they had no issues with it and said they weren't inconvenienced at all. Obviously not everyone is going to respond the same way....but from the looks of it, the process was fairly smooth during the high crowds yesterday.

Just my observations...

I see where they're not gonna sell "blasters" in the parks anymore. On property sales isn't gonna like that...

I wonder if that includes the toy guns over in adventureland?

Personally I think we've all
Lost our damn minds...but I suppose they feel what they're doing is necessary.

I don't understand the negativity towards banning toy guns. I'm assuming it's easier for the people watching on the cameras for people with REAL guns if the toy guns are gone, I dunno.

But anyway, it's a theme park...if your kid can't play with a toy gun for a couple of hours, there is plenty else to do. And he/she can still play with them at home, etc. I don't see the big deal here.

I'm all for security but getting rid of toy guns that they sell is silly. If there going to stick with this then they will probably get rid of them on toy story mania and space range.

I got randomly selected. What happened was a gigantic man came over to me and whispered in my ear "you've been randomly selected". embarrasing. Unneccesary too, especailly since I just went through bag check.

I have a different opinion on the event security contractors.

To be clear I'm all for real and theater security. But these folks are second rate stadium types.

When I'm approached with "Hey buddy come over here" - it certainly isn't Disney quality.
Dirty coats, lack of grooming and definitely poor people skills.

We noticed since it started, tge Disney folks are now directing "selected" guest for screening rather than being approached by these contractor types.

I don't think the traditional security staff is none to happy either. We've noticed limited interaction and in one case a Disney Officer LOULDY complaing that selecting every guest is not random.

In the end, it's theater. But in time I'm sure Disney will install a system that works and doesn't suggest the third rate image this contractor portrays.

1) I got selected for additional screening, maybe because I was carrying a cane.
2) This "clown" tried to get my attention.
3) I ignored him.
4) He placed a hand upon my shoulder, and I jabbed him, hard, with my cane . . . it has a big, impressive, knob in place of a handle.
5) After grabbing his mid-ribcage, he said he was Security.
6) He looked like a scum-bag, so I asked for his identification.
7) He produced a real Mickey Mouse ID . . . Not a WDW ID, but a real cheap looking ID.
8) I did obey, and held my cane aloft, much like Santa in Miracle on 34th Street did with Mr. Shellhammer.
9) If the "guard" tried to retaliate, he would have been beaned by the cane's knob.
10) I was eventually let go after the search - angry and displeased.
11) The way he searched, I could have been hiding anything except a vest-bomb, and gotten into the park.

This seems really aggressive. Can I ask what about him pissed you off so much? Is it the way they are calling people over?

I've seen a lot of reports about the new security not being the nicest in the way they do things. I'd also like to remind people this is an outside company not people Disney hired to do these things.

I am sure Disney is paying them, even if not directly. They aren't volunteers. What Disney isn't telling us is why they suddenly started this and had to start so quickly that an obvious third party contractor had to be brought in to do it. My guess is that they have been provided information by the government that indicates an increased likelihood of an attack/incident and they could not wait to ramp up their own people in order to present the appropriate security theater at the park entrances.

Before we go any further, yes, it is all theater. Some metal detectors and third party security dudes are there to make a show of "doing something" and keep out the small time pretenders. It does nothing to deter a professional who is determined to do something heinous.

It wasn't just Disney tho. Universal and seaworld also did it at the same time.

Probably that the guy touched him. If he is like me I want my space and don't want to be touched by someone other than my family.

They are really stepping up this security now. Horseback police officers at Disney Springs.

I'm surprised that it's taken this long... *sigh*
And yes, it's very sad that it comes down to this, but safety should be a priority with the crowds that Disney parks draw.

Agreed, I am sure why that's why Disney is adjusting accordingly... Just a sad world sometimes. :/

I think at this point the way they are doing it is a joke. There is only one detector at the moment and there is no ryme or reason on who is chosen. I'm not sure how one detector for 80,000 people is productive or safe! My husband called my name to get my attention after he bag search and security looked over and boom I was chosen. I don't mind the detectors but dont feel this is protecting us at all the way it's done. They need to have everyone go through
them.

Now those are functional. Horseback is very effective for crowd control.

Shortly after 9-11, random screening of guests at airport boarding gates was quite normal. I was doing a lot of air travel by myself at the time ( a middle aged male carrying nothing but a backpack) and was almost always randomly selected (yes, profiled). They were polite and quick, I was polite and compliant, and the process was smooth. I am assuming that the same can be said at Disney parks.

Is this a joke?

I have no doubt that airports do it, but if Disney did it, and it was noticeable that that was what was happening, the backlash would be insane. They aren't that stupid.

My dad has always looked like he could be a middle eastern bearded man. His grandmother was Cherokee. He's been looked at sideways and spoken to inappropriately on a number of occasions. Luckily, no one has started any real trouble with him. He is pretty much always armed anyways, though. Lol
I don't think Disney is stupid enough to put all this in place and have it be worthless. I think that all of this is completely pointless if the people who pose a security risk aren't subjected to additional screening and that Disney will find a way to do that as part of this "random" process. There will be just enough "random" to cover what they are doing. They will definitely be screening those who they feel pose a risk along with random guests.
