Correct. That may change tho as this is only the first day. From the pictures it seems that there is only one metal detector on each bag check side. It would appear that not everyone will go through the metal detectors then.

Rumor is that this is temporary through Marathon Weekend...
It's weird how everyone just did this randomly then. SeaWorld especially.Hopefully. (Maybe to return at other uber-busy times and/or when there's some specific, credible threat.)

We shall see. I will be there marathon weekend.Rumor has it that this was based on US gov't "strong suggestion" to the theme park operators. If it was suggested they do this through the busy holiday season, marathon weekend is a reasonable end date for WDW.
But, yeah, who knows?
Ha! Are pocketknives outlawed at WDW? I've had one in my pocket every time I've been there - as I carry one everywhere I go. I suppose now the rent-a-cops will make me hand it over.
...and I've never carried my weapon into WDW, but I do carry most places. My pistol is well concealed, and you wouldn't know I had it if I was standing next to you - or even hugged up to you. I guarantee you that there have always been people carrying at WDW, every day.
My two cents: I don't understand the argument that there shouldn't be increased security measures because it doesn't do anything to protect the people who are lined up to go through security. Basically that argument is saying since we can't protect from every scenario, we shouldn't try at all. For some reason that logic hasn't dawned on security experts who operate airport security screening, stadiums, military bases, border crossings etc.
It is nothing but feel good security.
How many people are lined up in the mornings for rope drop? Couldn't someone walk up with a gun and kill hundreds who have passed through the increased security from outside the increased security?
You could probably kill several via stampede by just firing into the air from outside security. Or setting off some firecrackers.
As others have pointed out, a lot of this is for show. Sadly, if someone wants to harm others at Disney, where there is a will, there's a way.....no matter if you have metal detectors or not. Mostly, I'm curious how this is going to affect the long lines to enter the parks. Those lines can be pretty congested without metal detectors. Parents bring in so much stuff, this just seems like it will create a big mess at the entrance.
I am curious if advocates of these measures are also willing to get frequent colonoscopies, even if they don't have risk factors, like age, previous diagnosis, or family history. If the procedure isn't necessary, most of us wouldn't do it. I personally avoid those like the plague. A lot of these measures could very well be about on par for me and probably not result in anything. Actually, this is starting to sound exactly like my colonoscopies![]()

The argument is that these specific security measures don't actually work for any scenario. More visible security is not the same thing as increased security. It's just theater.
Airport screening has been panned for a decade, they do it so it looks like they are doing something
I think colonoscopies are a little different then walking through a metal detector.
