The rumors have become official - Epcot's Maelstrom in the Norway pavilion will be replaced with a Frozen-themed attraction. The possibility of this has been all over the internet lately, but was confirmed today on the Disney Parks Blog by Tom Staggs, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

Staggs said the new attraction will "take our guests to Arendelle and immerse them in many of their favorite moments and music from the film." In addition, a meet and greet location will be added for guests to meet Anna and Elsa. Currently, there is a small meet and greet area inside one of the shops, but the small space is overwhelmed with guests and a new, larger space should help diminish some of that.

Anna and Elsa will also continue to greet guests at the Magic Kingdom, but the sisters will also have a bigger presence during the holidays. "Queen Elsa will use her powers to transform Cinderella Castle into an ice palace every night starting in early November." Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf will also appear in Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.

Over at Disney's Hollywood Studios, some elements from Frozen Summer Fun LIVE! will be extended. Wandering Oaken's Trading Shop will move closer to the "For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration" during the holidays and will include real snow in a larger play area.

Exact dates for these changes were not mentioned.

I think Frozen is an excellent movie and my kids love it. However, I feel like Disney is now shoving it down our throats. It's too much.

Maelstrom needs an overhaul, no question. Personally I'd rather see a Frozen themed character meal in Akershus instead of a Frozen ride in the World Showcase.

I think having Elsa transform Cinderella's Castle in the winter is an excellent idea. But turning Maelstrom into a Frozen ride is not. Arendelle is a fictional location, and looking at the sights of sounds of Arendelle is not the same as looking at the cultural riches of Norway.

I've never been to WDW. So Epcot, from what I've read and gathered has rides/attractions/shows that showcases different parts of the world. However, Frozen is fiction, I'm wondering why in there of all places? Why not MK or Universal Studios?

Anyone know why they decided to take over the Maelstrom ride? Maybe it's not as popular? I'm just curious that is all!

I've been to Epcot many times and I wonder the same thing. Yes it is supposed about the culture of different countries. Yes Arendelle. Yes some of us don't understand what it has to with Norway either.

Oh and It's Hollywood not Universal, :guilty:

Maelstrom definitely needs to be updated, but I hate to see it go. I hope they will at least preserve some of the cultural value of Norway in this. Perhaps there could be a presentation showing the inspiration for Arendale...
