Hi all! My DD-14 is being confirmed in Lutheran church in mid-May. My question is: do you/did you have a party/get-together afterwards? Hers is at the 10:45 service-do I invite family/close friends to the church?

Any input would be appreciated!! :wave2:

my "confirmation party" was just family. yes they were invited to the church, but..well...some family just didn't care.
long story

no "friends" were invited...it was just the fam.
and it was just a simple buffet type dinner at my parents house with a cake

Back in the horse & buggy days ;) , I had a family party for mine. It was a brunch after the service. Family was invited to the church. Some came, some didn't.

My co-worker (also Lutheran), has a ds in confirmation class now. She has promised him a party (mainly family) to bribe, errhh, convinence, errrhhhh, reward ;) him to finish his studies.

When I made Confirmation...it was only family. They were invited to church and then back to my parents house for lunch. Very simple & nice. :goodvibes

I have been a mentor for two kids that went through Confirmation. Both times I was invited to lunch after the service. Once at a persons home and another at a restaraunt. Both included family members that were also invited to the service. My DD goes through confirmation next year and I will probably just have a gathering with our famlies and her mentor's family.

We are Catholic and live in a small town. My DD is being confirmed this spring on a Wednesday night! The confirmation is not at our church but in a nearby town. They are combining the two parishes and apparently due to the bishop's schedule they can't do it on a Sunday. Her cousins had parties and she would like one too but I think we will just invite her godparents and grandparents and ask them to come over for dessert after.

For oldest DD we invited family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, & Godparents) to church with us. She also invited a few friends to play a hymn during the service with her. Afterwards all the above along with our Pastor and family were invited to our house for a small party, we served lunch and had cake.

Congratulations to your DD and YOU. I am sure you have both worked hard and deserve a party. My son will begin confirmation next year and - I'm not sure, but it takes 2 maybe 3 years of attending EVERYTHING, on top of classes or whatever else. So when we're done, yes we will party.

In our family, whenever someone is confirmed, the whole family is invited. Our family is spread out into several states, so we usually all make a big weekend of it (Fri evening-Sat-Sun). We BBQ Friday or Saturday and spend time visiting, playing games, shopping, etc on Sat.

On Sunday we all meet at church (usually 10:30) and the family all sits together (Confirmand sits w/ Confirmation class). After church, we take pictures of the Confirmation class and the Confirmand w/ godparents, parents, banner, etc.

Following that we have a "party" and invite all the family before they head home. Usually it's a cold cut tray, veggies, meatballs, salad, chips, punch, and cake (shape of a Bible or shell). Sometimes we put out a photo collage of the Confirmand over the years - but you wouldn't have to.

Usually all the aunts and grandmas contribute to the food (Grandma makes meatballs, an aunt makes fruit salad...) so it's not an overwhelming event to prepare. We also may invite close family friends (pseudo-grandparents, Lutheran school teachers, pastor...) depending on how many family can make the trip. We also have been able to use our church fellowship hall for Sunday's lunch (which is convenient).

Sorry, that was a lot of info - but wanted to give you some ideas.

DD#1 will be confirmed next year in 8th grade. I think a family party with maybe some close friends is appropriate after church--munchies, cake, etc. When you figure the trouble some people go to for other religious ceremonies--1st communion, bar/bat mitzvah, etc.--protestant kids deserve a little party for their hard work too! :goodvibes

My two DS's will be confirmed in the Catholic church - no party - we are headed to a college baseball game immediately after the service!

I would ask your child what SHE would like to do. After all, it's her special day!!

:)

I talked to Dee and she came up with a plan. We are going to invite family/close friends to the church, and then lunch/cake at our house afterwards.

She is more looking forward to it now!! :rotfl:
