confirmation gifts

This may sound obscure and it's probably not do-able now, but my parents got my brothers and I our own Natvity when we were confirmed. The Christmas after our Confirmation, we went out and chose whatever Nativity scene we wanted. Personally, I thought this was a great idea, because our house was never without a Natvity when we were growing up. It's not something you would typically think of, but I've enjoyed setting up the Nativity every year since.

Thanks for the awesome idea! I happened upon this thread this morning, and didn't have anything for DD's Confirmation THIS AFTERNOON!!
I went to the gift store and bought her one, a starter set that we could add to.

She just opened it about an hour ago. I don't think it's what she was expecting, as she asked me to buy her Rock Band for Playstation! HA!!

However, I think in time, she will come to appreciate it. She has always loved mine, and it has been her job to set it up at Christmas time.

My middle niece is being confirmed in 2 weeks. I bought her a Lenox cross. I had given her older sister one for her confirmation 3 years ago. The crosses are different, but both lovely. Just like them.

We bought a gold medal of the saint name that they picked. It was an appreciated gift.

When I made mine I got a gold chain from my godmother, everyone else gave much appreciated cash!

We were all guys and we liked the Nativity idea. I don't know why this wouldn't be gender-neutral. I mean, it's a religious event, so in my eyes, the gift (if not giving cash), should be religious-inspired...

In all honesty, I never expected anything for my Confirmation, so getting anything was just a nice surprise!

I didn't mean to put down your idea! I would have loved it. I just know my brother wouldn't have and my sons wouldn't so I based my answer on that.

I agree with you about a religious-inspired gift and also about not expecting gifts. I didn't get any gifts for my confirmation and I'm pretty sure my son is only getting one from us.

DD's confirmation was today...finally sitting down after the festivities:goodvibes

We gave our DD the True Images Bible for Teen Girls I bought this at a local Christain Bookstore. I did not have it engraved prior to today, because I wanted to make sure that she didn't end up with a bunch of engraved bibles after today. DD did like the bible, and I will be taking it back to the store to get it engraved.

DD received a really nice silver cross necklace from her godparents, and she also got a small book called God Thinks You're Wonderful! by Max Lucado. This was probably from a Hallmark Store, because it came iwth a bookmark string with the Hallmark Crown on it. click here for a link to the book

The remaining gifts she received were monetary.

For those of you with DD's and DS's that are getting confirmed in the next few weeks...one thing that my DH got bonus points from me today was...he suggested bringing out DD's baptism pictures today. For me that just was a cool idea!

Thanks for all the ideas so far. I like all of them! I just wish I new what she would appreciate. I know in years passed the church has given each confirmand a cross necklace, I'm assuming they will do the same this year. We belong to a Lutheran church, so rosaries and the like are out. I want something that she is going to look back on and remember some day that she got this when she was confirmed.

My DD confirmation was today. My mom bought the cross so I had to come up with something else. She needs a new Bible as the one she got in 3rd grade is rather worn and the spine is broken, but I guess that I will let her choose. what she'd like. We bought her the book The Velveteen Rabbit and, as a companion book, The Velveteen Principles. It talks about how you are not 'real' unless you are loved. This has particular meaning to DH and I as the Velveteen Rabbit was quoted by the pastor at our wedding. How about a meaningful book or a journal (my DD thinks these are better than gold, but she is a write and not intimidated by a book full of blank pages--as I would be!)

My DD also asked for cross earrings but I didn't find any I liked....

DS got a Bible with a leather cover from us and a beautiful James Avery ribbon/silver bookmark when he was confirmed. I think this is something he'll always treasure, and since he plans to be a priest it should get a lot of use.

DD's Confirmation will be in the fall and she asked for a sterling/opal necklace, since she has the earrings to match it. I might get her a little something else. Not sure yet.

I love the nativity idea! I might start watching for beautiful ones to put away for wedding gifts for both my kids. It'd be great to get one after Christmas and put it away. :thumbsup2

You're welcome! I realize it's not an "exciting" gift, but it was actually a memorable gift to me.

Hey...no worries here. Honestly, most people on these boards are women, so I just wanted you to make sure I had a Y chromosome! Like I said before, I wasn't expecting any gift at all and perhaps if I opened up a Nativity, I would've thought the same thing as your sons (As a matter of fact, I know I would've thought the same things as your sons! There would've been the obligatory thanks, but in my head, I would've probably been none-too-excited!). But the fact that my parents wanted to take myself and my brothers out to get a Nativity made it a memorable event. I guess it's corny, but it's something that I'll remember every year when I set up the Nativity at Christmas.
