Confirm rental car rate?

Who calls and confirms rental car rate made online? Will they give you a rough estimate with tax? Is the rate usually the same as the one you booked?

National sends an e-mail confirmatin when you book (you have to enter your e-mail address in the appropriate box). I always print two copies to take with me, one for them and one for me! But so far, I haven't had any problem, I've always been charged properly.
