have to confess.......I had to go to Google and look up

WIDGET.....and still have no clue.......

A widget is a hand-held razor-blade scraper - like you'd use to scrape a sticker off your car window. I also googled it, though, and there seem to be other things called widgets. But I've never heard of any of them until now, and I still don't know what they are .

I thought a widget was just a generic name for a thing - nothing in particular (similar to gadget or whatchamacallit).

LOLOLOL! Glad I'm not the only one. I looked it up at an online dictionary...you're RIGHT, TigerBear!! :teeth:

From Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary:

Main Entry: wid·get
Pronunciation: 'wi-j&t
Function: noun
Etymology: alteration of gadget
1 : GADGET
2 : an unnamed article considered for purposes of hypothetical example

From Dictionary.com...

A small mechanical device or control; a gadget.
An unnamed or hypothetical manufactured article.

widget

1. A meta-thing. Used to stand for a real object in didactic
examples
(especially database tutorials). Legend has it that
the original widgets were holders for buggy whips. "But
suppose the parts list for a widget has 52 entries..."

2. [possibly evoking "window gadget"] In graphical user
interfaces, a combination of a graphic symbol and some program
code to perform a specific function. E.g. a scroll-bar or
button. Windowing systems usually provide widget libraries
containing commonly used widgets drawn in a certain style and
with consistent behaviour.

IT's used all the time in the business classes in college when taking about merchandise.
