condos similar to Disneys

We love Disney and have stayed in Vero and Hilton Head as well. We love the layout of the disney 2 bedrooms and wonder if anyone has stayed in similar condos in other resort locationson the east coast.

They Hyatt's and top Marriott's are on part for the East coast but overall there are a relative few resort that are up to DVC standards.

I stayed in the Marriott for part of the vacation that I just returned from, and their accommodations are more spacious, although not as well thought out as Disney's. The kitchen is smaller, but there is a huge dining room attached to the living room. Bedroom accommodations were the same, except the 2nd bedroom had a king bed, and a queen pull-out. the washer/dryer were in the kitchen, which was a pain, and the carpet sweeper were in that same closet, jammed up against the wall. But the quality was equal to Disney.

Disney's standards are falling fast in the past few years. Even without the falling down I found that Kingsmill in Williamsburg Virginia to be superior to DVC resorts, Sagamore in upstate New York is above DVC also. Kingsmill gives class A service, something DVC never had, and more recently has really fallen on bad times. Sagamore is the same. The accomodations themselves assuming DVC accomodations have nothing wrong with them, are about the same, but the service is way beyond DVC at these two areas. Both are in the Preferred Hotels and Resorts Directory that has very high standards.

If the OP is asking about timeshares, I agree with Dean's comments that there are few to rival the accommodations and programs we enjoy with DVC.

If you want to compare top resorts (not timeshares), then there are many quality places to spend time.The DVC Concierge Collection is filled with many fine options- many as good or better than DVC resorts. Kingsmill and The Sag may be among those (the Sag is certainly NOT on the same level as Kingsmill or DVC - IMO) - but Kingsmill and the Sagamore (and others in the Concierge Collection) are not timeshares and have a very different profit structure than ANY timeshare. Quite honestly, they should have more to offer than most any timeshare - DVC included. Fortunately, DVC compares and competes very well with even the resorts offered thru the Concierge Collection.

I was thinking the same thing Doc just posted. You can't compare hotels like the Sagamore to DVC. It is a whole different class of hotel.

The original OP asked about similar condos, I rented condos at both Sag and Kingsmill, one bedroom units, both were similar to DVC, but when it comes to service there is no comparsion. Price structure or cost was not asked but if it was the cost of the units were about the same as DVC, the one bedroom units ran about the same allowing for seasonal changes. I am talking about total service here at all the facilities associated with the places. Just to give you one example of many, when I checked into Kingsmill the last time, the phones were not working, (the check in person forgot to tutn them on-something they should have at DVC) anyway the people next door to me let me use their phone. Three different people came from 3 different directions, it was like I was having a heart attack. This is the kind of service you get at top places across the country. Now granted DVC is limited with the cost structure as is all of WDW, I would be willing to pay much more in dues for service that is top quality but I am affraid most would not. I will give you this that it is very difficult to compare any situation with others, I just tried to answer the question as I read it. The OP was looking for condos on the East Coast similar to DVC. You don't always get what you pay for across the country but there are some nice surprises also, Kingsmill and Sagamore are just two.

I assume the OP was talking about timeshares. There's certainly a number of world class hotels that have suites and bungalows. Many, if not most, would be far superior to anything DVC has to offer but usually far more expensive from what I've seen.

One of the things one needs to be careful about is that even a great resort in off season will usually not compare favorable to DVC in terms of value and that goes ten times when discussing timeshare. Thus, IMO, only top resorts during prime time would be on par with DVC. And being rated red time by II or RCI is definitely not enough to qualify as prime time.

Were the 1BR "units" at Kingsmill and the Sagamore similar in size and layout to a 2BR DVC villa? That is what the OP was asking about.

Service at Kingsmill would seem suspicious to me if the phones in my room didn't work because "the check in person forgot to turn them on". Sounds like a pretty big service issue if guests have to beg other guests to use a phone. I'd sure hope that they'd have someone address the problem but am surprised it took "three different people from three different directions" to fix something that the front desk could/should have handled themselves. I've NEVER had an unresolved service issue at ANY DVC resort (and have stayed at all 7) and the few times I have had a concern it was always addressed immediately and taken care of by the first CM who arrived.

I'll still state that there are few condos on the east coast similar in layout, size and service to DVC - even though the OP didn't really seem to ask about service.

Assuming one is talking about trading DVC, there are maybe 60-80 resorts on the entire list that are comparable to DVC. Somewhere around 10-12 or so would be on the East Coast and that assumes you go all the way to Key West and include all of FL. And almost all of those are Marriott and Hyatt.
