Just checked into a condo for the next 5 nights. It was very clean upon arrival but there are no housekeeping services. If you want new towels/linnens you must exchange them at the office etc. I am wondering why there is an envelope for gratuity for cleaning in our bedroom. Aren't the rooms supposed to be clean upon arrival? Nobody is doing any services for us on a daily basis for the next week. Am i naive? I don't feel a tip is necessary. Thoughts?

We have that type of stay with our timeshare and we've never tipped and honestly never thought about it.

I think you are basically tipping for the cleaning that was done for you before you got there...seems weird I know but with a condo it's a lot of cleaning!

The same thing happened to us in March. We have stayed at many condos over the years and this was the first time I had ever seen it. I chose to ignore it. I paid a cleaning fee, I am not paying twice.

Do what you like. Every year we stay in the same cottage in Sanibel for 4 nights of golf and shelling. There is a housekeeping envelope in the room and we put in a little money - somewhere between $5 and $10.

We also rent a condo for 10 days in July. There is a separate cleaning fee so we don't tip. One time we asked for a later check-out. The cleaning service called and asked us to start a load of laundry before we left because waiting for the washer and dryer is what really slows them down. We left her a thank you note and $10.
