Concurrent resale and direct purchase

I am currently waiting for the ROFR process on a resale contract I am purchasing. I was also thinking of purchasing a direct contract hopefully with the same use year but I’m wondering if I need to let the process play out with the resale first so that it does not confuse the membership account. Is that a valid concern or will it not matter because both deeds would have my name listed the same way, automatically combining under one membership account? These would be my very first contracts so I don’t currently have a membership.

I would wait till your resale process finalizes and DVC has setup your account and points, that way there is no mistake when you add-on to your current membership. This also lets you side step the current 150 point minimum for new members that is required.

It’s better to wait until your resale contract passes ROFR as that contract will set your use year. Then you can tell Disney which use year to use for your direct. I had the same situation for my 1st two contracts, although I did gamble and purchase both at same time since Direct CCV had announced a cost increase effective 1 week from when I was looking to buy.

Do note that Disney creates membership numbers faster for direct than resale. As long as the names are EXACTLY the same, you will have zero issues combining.

I went through this over the summer, purchased resale, long process and decided to purchase minimum direct for Blue Card around the same time.
I ended up with two seperate Memberships, which is fine for me, but if you have the same use year and want to pool points together its easier having same membership. If there seperate memberships then you have to transfer points to combine for big trips

If you are still in ROFR, you have time. If you purchased direct today, they will have your membership number very quick, I was in the system in 1 day.
You want to have the membership number to put on the forms for resale so they dont give you a new one.
But definitly ask Disney Member Guide, they will know best.

I would wait until your resale is complete so you can take advantage of the existing member pricing which is typically better than new member pricing by a few dollars per point. I'm in the same boat now and my CM said that he will ask internally to try to speed up the process of getting my resale points into the system and new membership established once escrow closes. You may want to ask your CM about this as well. Good luck!

I think you can do it either way since neither one has happened yet. If you buy direct now, and its the same UY with the same owner, DVD will have your account created and you will have a membership number.

Then, you will simply add that membership number to your current resale paperwork and make sure it is all over the closing documents as well. Once the resale closes, then email MA to remind them that you have a member # and that the resale should be put there.

I have done that every time I have bought resale to ensure that it is done correctly. If you want to wait, then wait until the resale membership has actually been created and your guide will see your membership number. Plus, not sure how many points you are buying direct, but waiting for the resale to be done, will allow you to get current member pricing.

I’m hoping to purchase 150 direct.

You may want to consider waiting, or at least check to see what the incentives are...if any...between a new owner and current owner...as that could play a role in your decision. But, you also have to realize there could be price increases or a reduction in incentives which may make waiting less attractive.

Waiting in general is always less attractive to me. :rotfl2:

I agree you can do this in either order. This is the kind of thing that can be fixed when one or the other gets a membership account assigned.
