Conclusion - Need to Book FP+ as soon as possible

You went all the way to Epcot to book FP+s there (I'm not sure why you didn't just use your phone?).

Maybe they tried their phone first and there wasn't anything available so they went to the kiosks? I've been told recently that the phone app might show that they are all gone but the kiosks still have them?

Here's another crappy thing about FP+, I won't be able to set up FP+ for a friend who might come along with us. I'll set up ours right a 60 days, and then probably have to give him my wristband so he can ride while I sit (atleast for the most popular attractions).

I don't think many of us who have been discussing this for any length of time wonder why some preferred the old way. We know why.

And the reason you like it is exactly why we didn't. While you got your 3 rides, I got none because I arrived at the park later in the afternoon.

Now we can both have a chance to ride regardless of when we choose to go to a particular park.

a) You could have arrived at the park in the morning. I don't ENJOY mornings. Not in any sense of the word. At home I sleep most days til 10am, somedays later. But at WDW we are usually in the park by 10am. We didn't even really rope drop and still were able to pull multiple FPs for everything we wanted. The last trip under FP+ the availability of FPs was significantly decreased.

b) We didn't get 3 rides, we got 8 or 10 or ... a lot. It was awesome, and anyone could have gotten as much had you just decided to show up earlier.

c) Its more than just the number of rides, its the scheduling, the planning the feeling (or actually being) locked in, the decreased flexibility, lack of a clean slate, etc.

I mean its funny when in perspective of a previous poster who has repeatedly said the reason they like FP+ more was because, like you are saying, they liked to show up later in the day and by that point all the FPs are gone. Yet are glorifying FP+ by showing the availability they can get by showing up at Rope Drop ... do you know what the availability was under legacy at rope drop ..... EVERYTHING :)

This was a last minute trip for us, reservations made 12 days before departure. There was no way we were going to get Mine Train FPs and none have been available at the park of course. We will just wait until January when we return at our usual visit time. We tried getting to MK opening this morning but there was some problem with buses being delayed and we did get to the park until 930 and by then we had other FPs and the wait for Mine Train was at 45-60 minutes. This experience only made extra worse to hear the concierge at the Beach Club tell the family in front of us they had an extra special FP on their account and she highly suggested they use it for Mine Train or otherwise they would have to wait in a long line. Where is my extra special FP. After using FP+ for this time confirms I like the older system better and this new system does not benefit my family's free-form, little planning touring style.

Did you find out the deal with the "extra special FP"?

Even if they were given an "extra special fp+", if they're the ones choosing what to use it on and there is no sdmt availability, it being "special" won't help a lot, will it?

If Disney transportation had such a problem that it caused us to be late to rope drop, causing us to not get to ride something without a long wait, I would've visited guest services at the parks and find out what they wanted to do to make that right. They might've just gotten an "extra special fp+" themselves.

Depending on the FP type. When we were last there after a screw up with the FP+ system which took some time to resolve we were given 3 FPs each for anything we wanted. And when you looked at the FP in the system it listed every attraction. We even used 1 of the three for wishes. It was not subject to availability.

Good to know! Thanks.

I can't quote for some reason any more...

Anyway, for the person who said that Universal had bad food, you have to know where to go. Just like at WDW. Some places are excellent. I won't comment on the rest because a lot is subjective.

Also I couldn't agree more with "Conclusion: different touring/planning styles work for different people." That has been at least most of the point I think. People with all of those different touring styles need to be forewarned what to expect.

You seem to think I mean sleep in and lay around and saunter into the parks late. We don't sleep in. We have always been at a park at opening- every morning. We still do. Nothing has changed in that regard for us. What has changed is that we can now park hop and be assured we will have headliners to ride in the second park.

But you don't like it and that's fine with me. It's an old argument that has been beaten to death. Some people like it, some people don't. It's here and that's really all that matters.

I agree. It's about preference. And the arguments from both sides are the same every time. It has become like beating a dead horse. There is no right or wrong answer. Just opinions.

You said 'while we got three rides, you got none because you arrived in the park later' this clearly implies you didn't go to the park in the morning. Or did you just not pull any FPs in the park that you went to in the morning ? Am I somehow missing something. Are you arguing that you should be able to get FPs in your first park and your second park ? Does FP+ somehow do this ? I mean, if it does great, I will jump right on board if I can book 3 FPs in two different parks each day.

Perhaps you misunderstood.....6 or 8 or 10 was PER DAY! ;) I will report FACTS when I return from Disneyland next week!:thumbsup2

I suppose 3>2. Or 1. Or 0. So for those who didn't fully avail themselves of legacy FP it's better.

But it's more than a sheer numbers game. People used to get 6 or 8 or 10 FPs for attractions that really needed them. Now they might hit those numbers, but the odds of those being all headliners are pretty low.

People have reported getting that many through FP+ as well. It all depends on the crowd level at the particular park and having a touring plan that can accommodate being able to procure and use all of those fast passes in the time frame available to you. Basically, the same dependencies that were in place with the old FP system but designed for a different type of touring style.
