Conclusion - Need to Book FP+ as soon as possible

Yes, that one is just a souvenir. ;)

There will be many many valid FP-s to be had. Notice how I pulled that at 9:46 and could pull another one only 40 minutes later?? How awesome is that?! ;)

But wouldn't you be happier if you had 3 booked in advance? Think of the "clean slate" you'd have to start the day with. Think of the spontaneity !

I don't think anyone is saying you never need to book in advance. What they're saying is it is possible to visit with no planning in advance and have a great time and it is.

Of course, if you want to eat at what is the most popular place in the park and ride what is the most popular ride in the park in a very specific time frame, you're pretty much a heavy planner anyway and should book asap.

If you're willing to accept that some rides may not be available at specific times, and you truly enjoy visiting with no plans at all- well you wouldn't have made adr's to start with and you can still go and have a great time.

I agree.

Before FP+ there must have been no lines and you could get fastpasses for any time during the day for even the most popular rides. My memory of the old system must be bad. More of that Disney programming. I need to quit drinking that kool aid. ;)

I will refresh your memory! ;)

Oh Lordy no, hun. There have always been long lines as far back as I can remember and that's quite a ways. They do seem to be longer now, though, which is why I'm glad they added the fastpasses to the things that never had them before.

I'm sure that getting FPs at Disneyland is great during the offseason.

During the holidays when we have to visit, like around New Year's Day, they are a lot harder to come by unless you want to ride the Autopia or go on Spash Mountain when the temperature is 50 degrees.

On our visit, we couldn't have gotten a FP for IJ with a return time 40 minutes out even if we wanted to. When the park opened, Space Mountain, Buzz, Matterhorn, IJ, POC, and HM were all not operating and those that usually offer FPs were not distributing them. When we got back to IJ at about 9AM (opening was at 8) it took us about 15 minutes to get a FP with a return time of 11:15. So, yes, we would have been much better off having 3 FPs reserved in advance.

Just like at WDW, overall crowd size makes a huge difference in the availability of FPs, whether it's with FP+ or the old paper FP system.

Are there really "offseasons" anymore? And talk about bad luck with none of the headliners operating! AND on a Holiday! Sounds like the maintenance issue goes beyond just WDW. Indy, PP and Soarin' are down when we visit.

I will be sure to take plenty of pictures! :thumbsup2

I don't expect the parks to be empty, but do you really think the crowds on April 20 are the same as they are on December 28-January 2?

I look forward to your pictures of the 60 minute wait time for the Alice in Wonderland ride at 10 AM.

We actually won't be in the parks until the 21st. And for the record....the wait time for Alice is 65 minutes as I type this.

How much pressure is it likely to put on the other attractions with those three down?

I'm sure it will. But we will just see where "spontaneity" takes us and see what scraps we end up with.

Funny I don't see you asking Jade the same questions when she/he posts pictures from the first week of march and says "look no lines at the kiosk".

I think that you might be thinking backwards here. I suspect that the fastpasses probably caused some of the lines to get longer.

Why is Alice so busy?

Am I seeing correctly that BTM has no fastpasses available but only a 15 minute wait? That's pretty sweet.

It's been updated....BTM has a 50 minute wait now but still has FP available.

Disneyland has a crowd index of 82% so I wouldn't call that "offseason". I'm really curious what we will be able to pull off during this trip. :scratchin

With legacy fastpasses probably quite a lot. I hope that we can go next year so I'm looking forward to hearing how it goes.

I don't have that much experience with Disneyland, but I understand that it is typically more busy on weekends than weekdays at non holiday times. Touring Plans predicted today as crowd level 7, but that drops to 4 for the next couple of days.

I'm sure that you will manage to do at least as much as we did on those days over the Christmas holiday.

Have a great trip.

Yep. I plan on having 3 Fps within the first 2 hours of park opening. RSR, WOC and TOT will be the initial intent. We will ride RSR in standby and single rider within that first hour. Then hit up a short wait at TSMM and California Screamin' in the meantime. I will then probably stroll across the street and pick up a FP for Star Tours or Space while we wait for our RSR FP to be active since the parks aren't connected. After that we will play it by ear....and THAT is when it gets interesting! ;)
