Hello all!
My husband and I are traveling on the August 22, 2016 cruise on the Disney Dream to the Bahamas. We traveled on the same cruise for our honeymoon this past September. However, this time we were able to book a concierge room! We're very excited but we don't know any of the differences between this and a regular stateroom (other than the larger room). We also noticed that we will be able to book our port excursions much earlier this trip. We booked a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah for our honeymoon. Will this experience be much different? Also, my brother will be on this cruise as well...are there any things that will separate us from him at check-in, disembarkation, or at any other period?

Thanks in advance!

As Concierge, you will have a separate check in counter in the terminal. At debarkation, Concierge are walked to the front of the line onboard, but join the line off the ship and through the terminal. You have a Concierge Lounge and sun deck, that non-concierge people are not allowed access to.

Okay, I'm sure he can handle himself at check-in. I'm glad to know we'll be leaving around the same time because we're sharing a towncar back to the airport. Everything else we can gauge when he'll be with us and only use concierge perks while we're alone. Are there any additional people to tip in concierge, or is it roughly the same?

Yes, there are the Concierge hosts. They are not included in the $12 per night gratuity charge that's added to your onboard account. What you tip them is up to you.

We booked a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah

That's category V, right?

If it's category V, I'm not sure they are bigger? They have a different look and feel to the next level down, but are they bigger?

Separate checkin area, separate area to walk onboard (though you CAN just walk on with him), you will go to the lounge to meet the hosts and get a packet of info and he won't be able to join you. The lounge is a concierge-guest-only place.

At debarkation, Concierge are walked to the front of the line onboard, but join the line off the ship and through the terminal.

But you don't have to do it. I wish we hadn't; it was annoying, and I like to take my time leaving but this didn't allow for that.

What Category cabin did you book? Cat V, Cat T, Cat R?

Each will will it's differences .....

We booked category V, and I think it was 250 ft2 last time and now it's 306 ft2. Not a huge difference, but difference nonetheless.
I think we'll probably check in separately and meet at the sendoff party after he gets on.
When it comes to leaving I think we'll probably leave with him since we're all going to be taking the same transportation back to the airport after our trip.
Thank you!

You get an extra tv too in front of the bed.

You need to be careful with this statement IMO. As others have stated, the TV's in the Cat V's are .... different than the Dream.

Actually, the Fantasy has flat panels TV's at the foot of all the beds of the cat V's, the Dream does not. Except for the two Cat V's that attach to the Cat R 's cabins, forward , 12004 & 12504, only some Cat V's have big flat panels at the foot of the bed like the Fantasy.

IOW, Only 12004 and 12504 have a large TV at the foot of bed on the Dream.

Now whether that changed during drydock, I am clueless. I welcome input.

Does anyone know if the/all Dream Cat V cabins have large flat panel TV's at the foot of the bed, in addition to the little TV at the desk? Recently, after drydock?

It's plausible. I would expect such improvement. But, then ....

In the past, the Dream cat V's did not have the large TV at the foot of the bed.
Since the Dream was the first built, they learned from mistakes.

They learned, and installed said TVs aboard the Fantasy.

The only question left is if I learned from the rebuild. I think, maybe not, LOL.

We are staying in the Dream's #12504 leaving on March 28th! Our first Disney cruise, can't wait!!

Well then, ... you definitively have a 42" flat panel tv at the end of bed then.
In addition to the little tv at the desk.

Will you ask aboard, if all cat V's have a tv at the end of the bed now? Then report back please.

Due to the Dream drydock it may be possible all cat V's have tv's at the foot of the bed.
Of course all that could be wishful thinking. That would mean DCL actually did something for the pax. That would be note worthy. LOL

My experience has been that an officer took us downstairs, waited for us to gather our luggage and then walked us all the way to the front of the line at Customs.

It never hurts to ask Concierge if your brother can disembark with you. Some people will be enraged, but asking doesn't cost anybody anything.

My daughter stayed in 12504 during our Dec 18th cruise ... definitely a flat screen at the foot of the bed. Nice room & quiet area. Close to the Concierge lounge & right next to the Royal Suite.
If you can change though, I'd recommend 12508, 12510 (or 12008, 12010) ... they are same size rooms, but on the bump & have MUCH bigger verandah!
My first cruise on the dream was scheduled to be in 12510 ... and they bumped me up to 12512 (OOT) ... awesome room with double the space & enormous verandah!

We stayed in 12508 last summer...change if you can. The verandah is HUGE!!! The lounge is nice for grabbing a quick snack, bottled waters, coffees. Be sure to go to the welcome reception there where they will review your itinerary and make spa appts, etc. Having the host in the lounge is a huge help during the cruise too.
