What dining benefits are there to having a concierge room? If you have a concierge room, is it overkill to be on the dining plan as well?

We would like to stay 4 nights at POR on dining plan. Then switch to AKL for 2 nights in a deluxe/concierge room. Should I have the dining plan for those two nights at well or not?? :confused3

There is alot of convienance to having concierge, mostly the ability to grab snacks and drinks. We find it worthwhile because we tend to spend alot of time in our resort, especially in the summer months. It doesnt take many trips to the snack bar to run up a big bill. Also, you have access to the ticket, input and offers from the concierge staff that makes a big difference.

I really liked being able to email the staff our ADR requests. They got all of our requests filled within 15 min. of the times we wanted.

So in the concierge lounge, is everything an extra charge? Is there anything, food/snack wise that is just covered under the actual room fees. And if not, what is the real advantage of having concierge?

Concierge is mostly about service. Food is a small extra and not a meal replacement. I would not give up the dining plan just because you are in concierge. Unless you can survive off snacks every day.........The snacks are included in the price you pay for the room. Since you are paying at least $100 more per night for concierge your snacks are very costly. If you do not plan on using the planning service they provide then you really shouldn't waste your money on concierge bases soley of snacks.

We're staying concierge at BWI in 2 weeks. We also have the dining plan. We didn't consider concierge to be for our meals, but we're not heavy eaters so we like the idea of the lounge for breakfast. I don't think most people choose concierge for the lounge food but for the service. I hope that clears things up a little.

I would like to do the conceirge just for the ability to be able to do the Sunrise Safari!! Sounds like that would be really cool!! :cool1:

You will love the Sunrise Safari!

With you having 4 children I would do Concierge with dining plan. We have 3 children and are doing Concierge with the dining plan. We always eat out at restaurants while staying concierge. It isn't always convenient to come back to the hotel to grab a snack.

You will love having a lounge with 4 children. A room can get pretty crowded! It gives everyone some space. The AKL lounge has a tv area for the children to watch movies. Ask Don to do his "Donald Duck" impersonation for your children!

We are staying CL and did NOT take the dining plan. We have breakfast in the lounge most everyday, but that is really the only "meal"...what is served is fruits, mufffins, cereals, yogurt, bagels, breads, coffee tea juice and water.

Other that that we may grab a cookie or two, some wine at night while getting ready for dinner and sometimes an after dinner cordial. but that is the extent of our use of the CL for food. The evening food served is OK but I have found it spoils my appetite, so I don't eat it. It also seems to be heavy kind of food that I don't eat anyway.

I like the CL for things other than food...

I found the meal plan and concierge is just too much food for us...but we are two adults no children, so that could be the reason.

This is exactly what we're doing in December (Sugar Loaf Concierge at the GF and paid for the dining plan). With 3 kids who want to do EVERY character meal, the dining plan is a no-brainer. We'll use the lounge for b'fast and probably snacks/desserts in the evening. And I'm looking forward to a drink to relax at night! Also, the Concierge staff got us all our ADR's. I've requested a Wishes cruise, so I'm hoping they can get that too (at 90 days... not there yet).

BTW, see ya at SL, Lori!

Hi fellow Michigander!
Having the dining plan and concierge is an excellent idea. You will have better luck getting your ADRs through concierge than you will on your own. They are very good at getting hard to get ADRs, also. Having the extra space in the lounge was a major plus for us. Our first concierge trip was my first mommy/kid trip. My son was 10 and it was nice being able to have him meet me up in the lounge 5 minutes before I went up. I knew he was safe there, and would behave himself. In the afternoon it was wonderful to go up to the lounge, have an iced tea, and read a magazine or newspaper on the couch, while ds watched some cartoons and had some cookies and milk. Concierge isn't a meal plan. You'll definitely want full meals in addition to concierge. Jiko is a must do, and is a two TS choice.

You'll love the sunrise safari! I have done it twice and loved it both times!

I'm in the process of trying to make this same decision (I posted it on the dining board!! :sunny: ). I am leaning toward going with the dining plan this time (which we've never done before) and skipping concierge, or else doing concierge just for the last night or two. I'm not a big eater and eating an appetizer and then a sit down meal is too much for me. Usually, when we go concierge, we don't end up at a lot of sit down restaurants as well (it's just my young son and I; it might be different if there were several of us). Usually counter service at the resort is enough in addition to breakfast and a snack. However, the dining plan looked interesting because I thought it'd be fun to finally try all the great Disney restaurants that we've overlooked. This might be our "dining" vacation :flower: I think I'm going to try a lot of the signature restaurants and forgo concierge this time around...but who knows, we're not going for a few months and I might change my mind again before that

Have fun deciding! Either way should be fun.

Just remember that in order to include dining you have to make it a package. So if you add dining to your AKL concierge stay you will need to buy at least a one day pass for everyone in your party. Might not be worth adding the dining.
A basic 6 day ticket is $196
a 5 day ticket and 1 day ticket will cost $253
about $60 extra with taxes per person.

So you are saying that if I switch resorts (4 nights at POR and 2 nights at AKL), then I wouldn't have a 6 night dining plan, it would be two seperate plans - a 2 night and a 4 night. :confused3
