Just checking on everyone's 'favorite' concierge collection and why.
Haven't booked anything, just at the research point.

Thanks

Just been a DVC member since 2004 (SSR), however, DH and I stayed at the Arizona Biltmore over the Memorial holiday. The buildings are older, but a lot of nostalgic history. Every U.S. President from Hoover to Bush has stayed there. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous. I guess a lot of the rich and famous still enjoy staying there; we ran into Bill Walton (retired basketball player and not a commentator for NBA games) while we were there (not a very pleasant guy though).

You cannot beat the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island (in Michigan) for elegance and ambiance. It's a beautiful and historic hotel, and the island has no motorized vehicles, so you are brought to the hotel by horse and buggy. There is a historic fort on the island, dating back to when the British and French were fighting over possession of the Great Lakes. The area itself was used way before that by the indians of Canada and the Great Lakes as a meeting place. They--and the French voyageurs(and trappers) met here to trade furs, and a young man by the name of John Astor made a fortune here in about 6 years of buying furs, and selling them overseas for hats. It's a lovely rural area, but the "season" is short--June, July, and August. You can get to the island by boat for about $25 per person, and it's a huge tourist destination by day. It's very old-fashioned and quaint, and everyone in Michigan love it there. ;)

My family used to own property near Mackinac and we absolutely love the island. I've never dreamed of actually staying at the hotel, but can't wait to try it.

It's beautiful there, and the lack of cars and prevalence of buggies and bikes is very nice. Also, this isn't a HUGE "vacation destination," so you should still find it to be a very simple and easy place to visit.

Hi

We just got back from staying at the White Swan Inn in San Francisco. It was great! It was a bed and breakfast in the middle of San Francisco. Walking distance to a lot of places and close to bus stops and cable car.

Breakfast was a nice buffet with fruit, danish, croissants, bagels, 2 kinds of hot quiche, cereal. Coffee, tea available 24 hours. Every afternoon homemade cookies in the cookie jar for everyone to take. 5:00 wine and cheese in the living room and you get to meet and talk to other people who are staying there.

It was definately different than staying at a hotel but was really nice. The staff at the front desk were great they helped us with directions and where to eat.

Would definately stay there again.

We stayed at the Sagamore on Lake George after Christmas. It is a beautiful resort. It is very quiet at that time of year and didn't take many points. They say it is very busy and congested there in the summer. It's a very nice family get-away. We found it to be very relaxing.

We stayed at the Stein Erikson in Park City, Utah and loved it. The resort was beautiful and the service was excellent!

Stein Erikson looks really great! We have thought about that, but it is very point intensive. What time of the year did you go? Did you have children with you?

We have stayed at The Sagamore several times on points. It is only 3-4 hrs. drive for us.
We have been there at Thanksgiving, after Christmas and during the summer.
All 3 times have been great. We like how quiet it is in the winter-no people-we wnt sledding at the local HS hill.
In the summer definately alot more people, but not overcrowded and annoying. Everything was very easygoing, The Lake is beautiful and you can walk to Bolton's for restaurants, small shops, bakery or ice cream. Also, Ft. Ticonderoga is just north of the Sagamore.

I would love to go to Makinac Island.
My BIL will probably marry his GF who is from Michigan, so I figure that will be my chance to got to Makinac!

Anyone stay at The Plaza in NY? Our 10th wedding anniv. is coming up and if I buy in, I'd like to do a weekend there possibly.....

The Plaza is no more - being turned (mostly) into condos..

My favorite is the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. Spectacular location, and the pool is the most beautiful I've seen at any hotel, anywhere. Great golf (expensive, though). We've also stayed at the Arizona Biltmore (very nice), the Kapalua Bay Hotel in Maui (would definitely go there again), Keystone and the Tanque Verde Ranch (great value even though the points are high, as all meals and activities--including horseback riding--are included).

We have heard nothing but great reviews of Big Cedar Lodge near Branson, MO. Beautiful setting on Table Rock Lake, and a wonderful getaway! :)
