Concierge/Club Level Information - Part III (October 2010)

I'm sure others will give you details about being contacted.

The service you'll get from club level is going to be subjective and personal. It may be that you don't use the club staff with help for anything. Or it may be that they save your vacation. I think it's intentional that Disney doesn't spell out all they can do.

I know my way around WDW quite well, but at least once each visit, I end up with a question. They are very valuable sources of information, and if they don't know the answer, they usually know who to call to find it, and usually there is no line! Concierge on the first floor can asnwer many questions -but you have to wait in line.

Often getting the answer quickly makes all the difference, like how to get to dinner quickly. I'm not going to stand in line to ask whether the bus or boat is faster, but the club staff may hear us talking about our dinner, and offer a suggestion to take the boat. Whew! they just saved us fifteen minutes!

I must stress - they can't do everything - but often they can help point you in the right direction.

It is also worth saying the obvious, not all staff are equal. Some have more training/authority than others. Sometimes it matters how you ask the question. Sometimes you don't have to ask at all -they offer their services.

I further think the staff is authorized to offer different possibilities based on individual needs. If you have a special need -they may be able to sprinkle a little extra pixie dust in your direction.:wizard:

Thanks for the info! I'll definitely keep them in mind if we have questions or problems arise on our trip!

I have gotten pretty fast replies from Poly IPO. Send another email to IPO...Good luck! Or just call and make sure they have your info correct.

Well, today I got the generic email again but this time it directed me to an on-line site to fill in the information I emailed to them. I'm a little ticked they expect me to enter it all again so will email to ask if I really have to do it again since I already sent it to them. I'm not a demanding person and don't usually have any requests other than some dining reservations but we do have dietary issues and allergies I want to make sure they know about and pass on to the restaurants and the club chef.

Thanks for posting your review and I wonder if we happened to be in the lounge at the same time and didn't know it. I was there from 12/08/11 - 12/22/11 and I believe you were also there around the same time.
We may very well have been. I was wearing Mickey Santa Ears the whole trip...

We are staying at the Poly CL this spring and I was wondering what kind of beer do they offer. Does anyone know if they offer some kind of IPA?

Got back Sunday from a split stay, 4 nights CL at the Polynesian and 6 nights CL at the BC. We had a great time, it was my first stay CL at any hotel other than the GF. I absolutely love the GF but was looking forward to trying CL at these other hotels.

We enjoyed our stay at the Polynesian. Probably the thing we appreciated most was the view from the lounge. It was amazing watching the fireworks from the lounge which was decorated for the holidays with a beautiful tree. The food was good, but there wasn't as large a selection as we were used to at the GF. The resort and lounge has a family feel. There are a lot of kids, however at this stage of our lives (our kids are young adults) we probably wouldn't stay there again. I would highly recommend CL at the Polynesian you have kids, they will love it.

I was a bit apprehensive about the CL at the BC. A number of people have slammed the BC, however we really loved it. The CM's were friendly and very welcoming. The lounge is small but we were always able to get a table, with the exception of Saturday night of Marathon Weekend. One great thing about the lounge is it is open all night, so coffee and snacks were always available. The food was good, nice selection, and always quickly replenished.

We liked the BC so much we booked 11 nights in September with a BB offer, a deluxe CL room. The deluxe rooms were booked during our stay so I wasn't able to see one, but I have heard they are spacious.

CL at the GF is still my favorite, but I am happy we tried other resorts. The BC really impressed us, but I don't have anything negative to say about the Polynesian, rather it just wasn't as good a match. I am glad I didn't get scared away from the BC by a very specific bad review, because we really
enjoyed it.

Glad you had a nice stay.

Interesting. This is something new. We stayed there in summer 2010, I think. One of the few drawbacks we has was that the lounge closed. I understand they remodeled a little since our visit. One thing we really liked about CR was that the lounge was open at all hours.

It can be very helpful to have that extra space.

I don't recall what brands they had at Poly. They had some of the regualr offerings: like Bud Light, and they had one special brew. What I recall is that it was one beer the first day, then it changed a few days later.

I was wondering what restaurant provides the food for BC CL? Thanks

What I recall was that it was not really particular to one restaurant. They had the usualy pastries, fruit, ceral in the morning.
In the afternoon, one highlight was Mickey cookies. Also inthe afternoon offerings was house -made potato chips.
In the evening, they always had cheese/crackers platters. They also had some kind of 'salad' items. My recollections was that the salads were mostly the chopped-items-in mayonnaise type salads. They also had dipping veggie platters. (carrots, etc.) The hot items included bacon wrapped scallops. Most other hot items were fried: egg rolls, assorted fried dumplings (dumplings by their assorted names: wontons, etc.)

I remember thinking the hot appetizers were good, but for my tastes a few too many were fried, especially paired with the house made chips. Those were also good, but they were like kettle-style chips on steroids.

When we were there, we did not get to do the dessert much. We were inthe parks most nights. They had the usual small tarts, but I think we only saw them one night. I recall little pink cheesecakes - maybe strawberry flavor?

I've eaten at the BC/YC a number of times. I wouldn't say the food in the lounge was particular to any dining there. But then, in most cases I don't thing the club foods are all that close to restaurant offerings.

My inclination is to say the club food offerings that are resort themed are hold outs form an ealier era. (Like Boma's squash soup It's such a popular item, folks stay there just to get it.) Once upon a time, BC was known for Krispie Kreme donuts, but they did not have them when we were there.

That said, we VERY much enjoy club level, and BC was great! The thing that made BC stand out in my mind was the great service we got. Everyone there was supe nice. At Poly, they could have cared less about us, but at BC the service was very personal and sweet.

Hi all! We will be arriving at SL on Jan 31 and I was wondering if there is a room request that I should be making. Is one floor better than another? Does one side have a better view than the other? I would appreciate feedback from anyone who has stayed in that buidling before!

I stayed at the Poly in December and all the beers I can remember are Bud Light, Sam Adams, and a Hawaiian beer. There was 1 or 2 more but thats all I can say for sure.

The Poly had Longboard beer the last time we were there. I was wondering if the people who say that the lounge selections are better at the GF than the Poly have stayed in SL or RPC. While we loved the GF, and would stay there again in a heartbeat, the food offerings were much more limitted than at the Poly. Maybe we were there on an abnormal week, but other than the am offerings, the Poly was better. We were in SL in July.

Welcome home! Glad you had a nice stay at both resorts :goodvibes

Both sides of SL have nice views. Depends what you prefer marina or pool view. And you'll be looking at another building accross (very pretty IMO) when we were there a family we spoke with always requests 1st floor since the lounge is there. We were second floor, and it was perfect!

Hello Everyone!

Only a few weeks until our next Disney vacation. This will be our second time staying in a Disney hotel and first time at CR. The added bonus is I managed to get an excellent rate for CL so I figured we'd spoil ourselves and give it a try. Super excited!:yay:

I spent the last week reading (well skimming) this entire thread - thanks for all the great info. A few, hopefully simple, questions if someone wouldn't mind answering...

1. I saw mentioned that you could borrow strollers from the poly CL, is this true for CR as well? DD(4) may appreciate the break now and then - as will our arms from carrying her. Last year we rented at the park but found we only had a child sitting in it <20% of the time. Not sure it's worth it this year.
2. Not that I'm expecting anything, but I'm curious if they'll acknowledge my DS birthday...he's turning 8 two days before we arrive.
3. And finally we requested a room "away from Chef Mickey's" after reading the noise can travel all the way up some mornings. Would it have been better to request a room close to the lounge instead?

Thanks!!!

I can only answer #2... they might. Be sure that you've noted his birthday on your reservation and when you provided the IPO with your information. And, upon check-in, be sure to request a birthday pin for him. When we stayed at CR CL, there was a birthday card from Mickey & Minnie in our room; at BWI CL, there was a card PLUS balloons and candy. We never expect (or promise!) anything, though, so in both cases it was just a nice little extra. The birthday pin, though, will ensure your son gets lots of great attention around the resort & in the parks. I swear my kid got exhausted from saying "thank you" to all the happy birthday wishes he received. :lmao: He did also get some nice extras at meals, not to mention a snack-cart vendor gave him a free bag of Cheetos & a bus driver let him sit in the driver's seat (while the bus was parked, of course). Disney does a really good job of making birthday kids feel special. :goodvibes

Hope you have a great trip!

Our last stay was at CR & I had requested a room away from Chef Mickeys. We ended up being upgraded to CL in a room right across from the lounge w/a view of Bay Lake. I had mentioned we were celebrating DS's 1st birthday on our ressie. The night we checked in, we had dinner at Calif Grill & the server brought out a huge slice of chocolate cake for DS for his bday. When we got back to the room, there was a message on the phone from Mickey & Minnie saying happy birthday.

As long as you request says a room away from Chef Mickey's all you can do is hope it's honored, so it won't matter if you are closer to the lounge or on the other side where the Fantasia store is located.
