Concierge/Club Level Information - Part II (Sept 2009)

I booked CL at Sugar Loaf the other day and have read through this entire thread. I will email IPO today, but have a couple of questions.

1. Does anyone know if you can see the monorial from the marina side?
2. I have read some others refer to the number of tower/dormer rooms. Does anyone know of where I can see a "map" of the rooms?
3. I have already done my ADRs. If I want things waiting in my room, do they charge for only the items or is there a "service fee" attached?

Thanks and BTW--this will be surprise for my family!

Anyone know any of these answers? Thanks in advance for any help~!

I didn't answer since I'm not entirely sure. I would suspect that you could see the monorail from some of the rooms on the marina side. Just don't know if it's all of them. You can always call the IPO office and ask about the rooms.

The dormer rooms are just the rooms on the top floor -- they are a bit smaller but have lovely vaulted ceilings, and solid walls on their balconies. Some prefer them, some don't. The lodge tower rooms are larger rooms with a little sitting area -- they are by request only in Sugar Loaf. I think that they face the inner courtyard, but the IPO office would know. I've never seen a diagram of the building at the GF with the rooms on it posted on the internet...

When we had things bought for our DD's bday, they only charged us for the items. The service was just part of the services they provided. I've been hearing mixed things here as to whether or not they still do this for guests.

Hope this helps a little. If no-one can give you a definite answer here, I'd suggest calling the GF IPO.

How many of you staying CL also do a dining plan? We originally wanted to stay CL, and do the basic dining plan, but we need to cut something out, and I'm thinking the dining plan because I really want to stay CL! LOL...

I'm sure we would take advantage of the morning and afternoon offerings, maybe grab a quick appetizer and beverage before heading off to dinner (thus elimating the need to buy an appetizer) and then have some sweets later in the evening...

Thoughts/opinions???

Thanks! :)

we alwyas do the DP whether we stay CL or not. we do breakfast in the lounge and then QS lunch and TS dinner, or if we do the deluxe plan we will do lounge breakfast or maybe one TS breakfast and then TS lunch (early) and a 2 TS dinner. it is a lot of food, but it's vacation and we love having all of those options! GL!

We have done both (CL with DDP & CL without DDP) & we found doing the DDP with CL to be too much food. There would be nights we wanted just something light in the lounge & wanted to skip dinner but could not since we had to use the DDP credit. We are a family of 5 so we'd end up with 5 desserts at dinner & too stuffed to enjoy the desserts back at the lounge. Only you know what works best for your family. Either way, enjoy!

I am also of the opinion that a dining plan is way more food than we need when we have CL service. We do our large meal at lunch and most of the time aren't all that hungry late in the day. We tend to graze at the evening service and most times are back for desserts as well.

We've always done the ddp even when we are staying CL. This year is the first time we're not doing DDP because both dds are considered adults and they mostly eat kids meals so we are paying oop. This gives us a little more flexibility too - if we eat too many appetizers (which we have done) we won't feel compelled to still keep our ADR. I figure we'll come out even.

Last May I did DDP with AKL CL. It was just me & DS(8). It was really HOT that week and I would have skipped many TS meals if it weren't for DDP. We ended up with about 8 CS points left on our last day that I used for snacks to take home.

This year I had booked DxDDP without CL for DS now 9 & I before he turns 10 but then I thought about it and switched to CL without any DDP. I do have the Tables in Wonderland card and we'll use that instead.

I think it really depends on how old your children are and when you go. If both are under 10 the DDP can be a really good deal and can work well with CL.

I feel funny! I'm not accustomed to staying club level and don't know how much is too much to request.

We'll be staying club level lagoon view at the Beach Club for 8 nights in March. I just booked this and have not contacted IPO yet.

Upon making my reservation, I requested a full balcony and a microwave in the room. I'll let IPO know that I requested that and that we'll be moving from another room the morning we check into the concierge floor (our first night had no CL rooms available)

I've already made all our ADRS. It's just dd, 6, and myself and I want to make this trip extra special for her. On our last two trips we were in CL Grand floridian and we stayed at Poly. NEVER got a towel animal! I didn't ask either though. GF did arrange the dolls/stuffed animals and such during turndown service.

Would it be ok for me to request that they ask Mousekeeping to do towel animals a few times during our stay for dd? or would I look obnoxious asking? I don't want to be a pest...on the other hand, I'm paying good $$ and really think dd would get a kick out of the towel animals.

I'm considering a welcome in room decorating thing but haven't decided.

I just want so bad to give my little girl a magical vacation. The very most important thing to her is that we're getting 1:1 time alone. She probably wouldn't care if we stayed at a Motel 6 as long as it was just the 2 of us.:)

I don't know why I'm so hesitant to email the IPO office. I'm one of those "oh they're busy...I don't want to bother them" types when I know that's what they're there for. Help me not be afraid to utilize this service!

The housekeepers make them on their own time so that's what makes them random to know if you will get them or not. So because of that I am not sure asking would do you any good.

When I stayed CL with just DH we didn't do the DDP, since DH tends to eat a lot of salads on vacation. :rolleyes1 The dinners we had were more than enough coupled with the appetizers and the desserts from CL. :)

BUT - this April I'm traveling with DS17, DS9, and DN 4. The oldest and the youngest can eat twice their body weight in food, so I'm doing the DDP with them. That way DS17 can have a few appetizers, go out to dinner, have a quick counter service "snack" and maybe, hopefully, be filled up. :upsidedow

I know if I don't do DDP this trip, I'll end up paying a lot more OOP than I would with it. So if you think you'll need the food, or will be traveling with a big eater or two, then I would go for the DDP. :)

My family and I never purchase the Dining Plan because we think it would be to much food while staying Club Level, plus we always take full advantage of the food offerings in the lounge and are never hungry after eating them. We also don't like making ADR's 6 months before we arrive because that's not the way we like to travel and etc.

We're staying club level in July and I've been debating about adding the DDP. I think I will not - here's why. My DD can eat, but that's not a good thing. We are currently trying to make family lifestyle changes to eat more healthy and smaller portions. Second, my son does NOT eat much more than chicken nuggets, hot dogs and pizza. And he's a skinny little thing. DD does not share in that end of the gene pool. :confused3 So, I figure DD and I can share an adult meal and we can choose more healthy items like salads, grilled chicken/fish and vegetarian entrees (we're eating at Kona 2x and they have great fish and tofu dishes). My DS can get his junk (even though I am trying - with SOME success - to get him to try new things. DH likes his Disney food, so he can order what he wishes. But if I share most meals with DD, plus we snack on fresh fruit and veggies in the concierge lounge, I think we'll spend less than if we do the DDP. Plus we won't feel obligated to eat so much. We're going to eat when we're hungry, stop when we're satisfied and allow special treats (Minnie ice pops and Dole Whip - Mickey bars go to my DS.)

So, if you are not big eaters, I don't think you will need the DDP.

We do CL and the dining plan. We eat in the lounge for breakfast, counter service for lunch, table service for dinner. We do 1 or 2 signature meals and occasionally share a CS meal so we use the extras for the nights we don't have a TS meal due to lack of credits.

We also use the lounge for drinks and occasional snacks.

We're staying CL and doing the dining plan. We have some character meals scheduled and usually pick up CS for lunch. Since we like to prepay as much as possible, the dining plan works for us.

Would doing th DDP save you money? If not, then I'd pay OOP.
The dining plan may save you money, but it depends on your family's eating habits.

I would contact the IPO staff. I always make the first contact. I think they could help you arrange some surprises for your DD but I don't think I would ask them about towel animals. If you have several stuffed animals in the room I bet the mousekeeper will arrange them for her.

I'm sure you'll have a very special trip with DD.
