My wife and I are thinking of going to Charleston for our 10th anniversary. The Charleston Place looks beautiful, from the pictures I've found on the web. Anyone have any experiences there to relate?

Also, does anyone know what the weather is like in November? Is that still hurricane season?

Thanks for any help. . .

Tom

Well worth the points, one of the most elegant hotels I've had the pleasure to occupy. In walking distance of the historic district, great resturants, the straw market and the river. Very romantic area, we were there for our 12th anniversary.

We enjoyed the indoor pool, weight room (very state-of-art), steam room, has a massage, facial. Best anniversary gift ever. We were there in May, Not sure about the weather, it didn't matter to us. Lots to do right in the complex including shopping, several great restuarants- the spa cruisine was wonderful.

I'm sure you'll love it.

Hi, I live in Charleston and the hotel is beautiful and as centrally located as you can get. I have never stayed there, but have visited a room which was very nice and the lobby/restaurants/shops are very nice. As for the weather in November - usually it is still very warm - but there's no guarantees and it is the very end of hurricane season.

Hope that helps!

Thank you both for your replies. It sounds like a great place, and I think we are going to go ahead and make the reservation.

Thanks again...

Tom

Before we were DVC members, we were visiting Charleston and were in need of locating a restroom after drinking ice teas for lunch - I happened to see a very nice looking hotel and decided we should just walk in like we owned the place, so we did. Two years later, while looking through the DVC book, the photo of Charleston Place caught my eye - and I thought to myself: "I remember that beautiful staircase and the chandelier" - then it all came back to me....centrally located is right, and even at the right time

We were there just last Saturday. I was going to post this anyway so this is as good a spot as any. We used 44 points for a Saturday night. We used a few extra points to be sure to get a queen or king size bed. According to MS, that puts you into the executive level room which is supposed to offer a king bed, fruit in the room, etc. We didn't get any fruit but we did get a corner suite - very nice with 2 TV/VCRs, a marble bathroom, king bed, couch, desk and a table with 4 chairs.

Since it was a corner suite, we had 3 windows in the living room, 2 facing 1 street and 1 facing another. There were curtained french doors into the bedroom. It is strange after being used to having a kitchenette at BWV that there was no fridge or safe (that we could find) in the room - very traditional.

The turn-down service straightened up our towels and left 2 chocolates along with a note showing the weather for the next day.

We didn't try the restaurants although they looked very nice; we weren't hungry enough for that big a meal. We bought a couple of souveniers in the Orient-Express shop.

At first we were disappointed that it was quite a walk to the Battery and the center of the historic district but then realized that there are very few dining options down there and Charleston Place is right in the middle of the dining and shopping.

We have never stayed in Charleston, but we have stayed on Kiawah Island many, many times in November and the weather is always very nice. We've never hit a hurricane, thank goodness, and I've even occasionally ventured into the ocean ( you know us crazy New Englanders) but it's always been very nice. You'll love it. If you rent a car, it's a great place to explore. Kiawah is about 21 miles out of Charleston and you will DIE when you see the homes!!! If you could get past the second security gate, you would see multi-million dollar homes on the ocean.....I could only dream

Thanks again, everyone, for your replies. It sounds like my wife and I are in for a treat.

downontheBW- I see that you are from Rochester. We're close to Buffalo. From what I can see, flying to Charleston is a real pain- expensive, lengthy, and possibly involving multiple flight changes. Did you fly there? If you did, what airline and route did you take?

Thanks-

Tom

Just want to comment that my family just loves Charleston , we visit every spring and really enjoy the history and beauty of the area. We have went through the hotel many times...love to shop to I drop!!!! LOL. cannot say enough about the area or the hotel ...just simply beautiful -Peggy

I found this interesting, along the lines of discussions we see sometimes about the "value" of our points. I checked on Yahoo! travel for the rates for a room at the Charleston Place and found a corporate rate for a deluxe room of $329. This room for 4 nights will cost us 95 points. Cash would be $1,316, which works out to $13.85 per point. If we multiply that by the 41 years worth of points I purchased, my value per point (leaving out inflation, opportunity cost, and all that boring economist stuff), I get approximately $567 value out of each point. I paid $67/point. Not too bad.

(I know, I know- this isn't sound economics. I don't care. It's how I think of it.)
