Concierge at CR- worth it?

I know this is a personal opinion for everyone.

I am looking to book CR with Magic Kingdom view next summer. This is a "haven't been to WDW in 11 years...probably won't go again before oldest DD is in college" kind of trip. To add concierge, it would be an additional $127 per night. That's just a little over $25 per family member. We really are "snackers," I am just concerned that we will always be in a park instead of at the hotel and not taking advantage of food offered.

Would you do it? Why or why not?

Thanks!

"Worth" is subjective. Like you said, you've got to be there to take advantage of the offerings. We used to stay CL whenever we weren't staying on DVC points, but not anymore--the price has gone up and the levels of service and perks have gone down, and we no longer think that it's "worth" it.

If you are looking at it simply for the "snacking" benefits, you'd be far better off to simply bring along snacks for your room. CL is supposed to be more about the intangibles, although like I said, IMHO service has gone down and it's just not worth paying for anymore. I'm sure others will ahve differing opinions.

I wouldn't. My family does not eat $127 worth of snacks per night.

Now for the other benefit, ADR help, is it worth an extra $127 a night to have someone make your ADR's for you? Use a travel agent and most will do that for free!

The 3 times that we've stayed on the 14th floor at the CR we had outstanding service. Is it worth the extra cost, thats totally up to you to decide. Now that we are DVC members we don't stay concierge but we enjoyed it when we did.

Another consideration is that the view on the club level is not guaranteed. You could get either MK or Bay Lake. So if seeing the MK is more important, you probably want to book a standard tower room in that view category.

The view itself is worth every penny.:thumbsup2 If you're on the 14th floor, the lounge overlooks MK. Even with a lake view (which is spectaculiar), you can still get your fill of the MK.

Staying concierge only for the "snacks" is never "worth" the money.

If you were to make a reservation for the Atrium Club which is on the 12th floor, you do not get to make one for a Magic Kingdom view room. That has to be requested, so it's 50/50 chance that you might get it or you might not get it. The only Magic Kingdom view rooms you can reserve for a Club Level room at the Contemporary are on the Tower Club level which are on the 14th floor, however those rooms are only suites which come with the guaranteed views. The Tower Club also has standard rooms, however I think there are only 5 of them which do not come with a guaranteed view when making a reservation. Plus they are more expensive then a standard room on the 12th floor and were not renovated like all the other rooms in the Contemporary.

I should also add that the lounge on the 12th floor also has a view of the Magic Kingdom like on the 14th floor lounge, so it's the same view.

If you want some hard to get ADRs, or you just want someone else to take over the job of organizing your trip then I would say book the CL. Like others have posted the MK view isn't guaranteed, but the lounge overlooks the MK. I agree, booking the CL is not worth it if you are doing it for the snacks.

There are two MAGIC KINGDOM facing ROOMS, NOT SUITES on the 14th floor. At least one only has a king bed. It's the room closest to the lounge on the MK side of the building. The room we were in was in good shape and didn't really need major renovation, a little minor updating would be a better description.

Is Concierge Worth It?

We've only splurged for concierge once before, enjoyed it and are doing so again next week at the CR. Whenever this kind of question comes up I think it's hard to answer. You might define perks a little differently than I would but basically for us, it is having a quieter floor in the resort, snacks and sodas, expresso etc. set out several times a day which we can enjoy in a lounge area or in our room, CMs available for questions and checking tickets, changing ADRs etc. without standing in long, resort concierge lines. With 3 adults staying together we like having a lounge to grab a light breakfast (we never do breakfast ADRs), wait in while someone showers and gets ready etc. We do spend some time at our resort so having all these little extras really attract us to concierge especially since we are going at holiday season this time. Yes, I know that we could supply own snacks*, change our own ADRs and save some money but not having to do it for ourselves is so nice (especially when you can get Concierge at AP rates).

It really is a personal decision; we would probably be just as happy in a MK view room but since we're flying down, using DME and got the AP discount it just makes it special to stay concierge!

*Convention hotels are now charging per pound to "receive" packages of groceries.

There are rooms that are not suites on the 14th floor, at least two face the MK, and at least two face Bay Lake. BTW--they are listed on Deb Wills' site--which is usually the most reliable of all of them--even over the official WDW site, which we all know isn't always so reliable. If you reserve a non-HA king room on the 14th floor, you will be guaranteed a MK view, because that is the only view available for a non-HA king.

And no, I don't believe that there are only suites on the 14th floor, because less than three years ago I stayed in a regular room on that floor. I'll believe my own experiences over any web site.

Thanks for all the replies! I didn't mean to sound like I was just considering concierge for snacks......... I was wondering about the little extras just like klmall described. Whew! This is going to be a tough decision! I appreciate all the input on floors, rooms, views, etc. We have never stayed at CR. Never stayed onsite at WDW. This will be our second trip and i am very NERVOUS!

basketballmom - our family stayed at CR this past trip and requested MK view - which was amazing. We originally booked next trip back at CR Atrium Club but realized we would not be happy if we got there and ended up with a lake view after paying so much money. Because of that, we changed reservation to Poly Club Level. It all depends on what you are looking for, what is the most important and what view you want to be guaranteed. Good luck in your decision.

tink lover- I think I have decided to go with MK view at CR. What floor were you on? We are planning to go in mid August. I am making my reservations this week.

Thanks for your input.........I am really excited about the amazing view! Poly was our second choice, you'll have to let us know how that goes for you.

When my family and I made our reservations at WDW for this August, the Contemporary was 100% sold out for the dates we wanted to go. The 1st of dates I tried was from the 5-15 and the dates we are going, which is the 11 - 22. Both times nothing was available at the Contemporary.

I just tried from 18 - 30 and for those date are available for a Magic Kingdom view or a Garden view, however I am not sure if those are the dates you were planning to be in WDW?

We will be there from the 11-17. We're doing a split stay because I let my youngest 2 DD choose the resort and they couldn't decide. we're at POP the first 3 nights and then at CR the last 3. I got my reservation through dreams unlimited. when i was at the WDW site, everything was booked.

I'd like to go later in August, but we will start school around the 25th, and we are driving from West Texas, so we need extra days to drive home.

After reading all the replies, I put my deposit down today.......we are definitely going!!!:cool1:

I'm so excited for you!! You can't go wrong with that view - it was simply beautiful. We were on the floor right above monorail - fifth I think? and somewhat in the middle of the hall. I had read and tend to agree that there is not a bad view on that side. One small thing that we requested was an odd numbered room so that we could lay in bed and look at the castle. We are looking forward to the Poly, but that first MK view at CR can't be beat.

If you had a Magic Kingdom view and were over the Monorail station, then you were on the 6th floor. There are no Magic Kingdom view rooms on the 5th floor, only Bay Lake view rooms.
