Concerns at Aulani?

AWWWW, thank you all for your thoughts but it looks like the point is mute as there is no availability. UG. All that for nothing? :( Waaaaaa - ok next... Anyone know of any comparable hotels in the area? I know I know... nothing really compares to Disney. I heard Sheraton Waikiki? UG so bummed. Thanks again ya'all :)

Waikiki is a WHOLE different atmosphere. We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village for 3 days prior and it equaled 1 night in Aulani but the pace of Waikiki is just so different. Look up Ko'Olina resorts I know Four Seasons is next door and there are 2 others you can walk to from Aulani.

As others have said, take those reviews with a grain of salt. Some people are just chronic complainers and aren't happy unless they're complaining.

That being said, my husband and I are currently at Aulani on our honeymoon. I've stayed here before, he hasn't. His reaction when we got there? WOW. He can't want to come back as he's already planning our next trip lol.

As far as the pool chair situation, we were down a little before 8:00 the other morning and found two seats under an umbrella near the little kid splash area. They were enforcing saved seats and I watched them take stuff away from seats. tomorrow we have a cabana that was gifted to us through our honeymoon registry. I can't wait to see it!

We've been to Aulani three times now and are planning our fourth visit. We've always found the CM's there to be very, very pleasant to deal with. Many are the best we've ever encountered as compared to those at WDW, DL or DLP.

The physical facility at Aulani is also very, very nice. Lush, tropical, just beautiful.

We went last March - peak spring break tim. I am not a complainer and did not post any online review, and it was not my first trip to Oahu (i've been a few times to Oahu and Maui). aulani is beautiful and in general service was good. Our room was very nice and my kids had no problem with the pull out sofa. But I found there were way too many people for the facilities available. The pool was overcrowded and a bit of a nightmare finding a spot on the 1 -2 days we stayed around the resort (most days, we were out and about). When we came back in the afternoon after outings, we also had issues and had to stalk chairs looking for someone who was leaving. Lines for the slides were often too long to be worth standing in. Getting activities at kids club was very difficult -- we gave up and they didn't do much at all there. We stayed 9 nights. I will not stay there that long in the future. A few days, and then I will go somewhere else (likely to another island.)

One said shower was leaking cold water on their heads when using the handheld
This happened in our room, slightly annoying. We just used an extra hand towel and wrapped it around the shower head. It was soaked by the time I finished my shower but at least it stopped it from dripping on my head. I never said anything to front desk, to much fun stuff to do there to waste time in line to complain about something I fixed myself!!

Something easily remedied by a call to maintenance. Never had an issue like that in our three visits.

I'm curious about the chair situation. I just want to prepare myself :) Has anyone visited in early December (5-10)? Should we get there early for chairs? Or just roll with it? We are a party of 5. But, I would be happy with just 2.

Some people are complainers. The shower thing is true-ish. An occasional cold drop might hit you. Truly a first world problem that I encounter at home, too. The pool chair thing is absolutely true because there are not enough chairs and some of your fellow guests are rude chair hogs and staff cannot or will not enforce their own rules. That was the one thing that truly annoyed me about the resort. Fortunately there's an ocean all the way around the island so easy access to the water was not utterly dependent on Disney's pools.

Just curious when is your trip and is it Dvc or hotel no availability?
Thanks

It seems like the ones who post the negative reviews are the ones that paid full cash price and didn't do their homework before going.

We have always had great service at Aulani. The servers at the restaurants and bars have always been attentive and friendly. However, we do rent a Casabella for the day that we spend hanging out at the resort. We find it much more relaxing because we are guaranteed the all-day shade and not having to fight for chairs.

Also, we have a waterfall type shower head in the ceiling of our shower at home (like they have in the villas at Aulani).... and it drips. Whenever you have been using it and turn it off or switch to the handheld, the water remaining in the fixture drips for a little while because of gravity.... and it feels cold. It is the downside of having a waterfall shower and not an necessarily a maintenance issue.
