The nurse insisited that unsatisfactory is not abnormal, so I can calm down-the internet agreed. Since I'm past menopause, he put me on hormones (I don't know-but that's another issue), said he was sure it's ******l dryness, and he's going to repeat the pap smear in a month. What's really odd is that I had a complete hysterectomy- ovaries, uterus, cervix-a year ago, so what is there to do a pap on to begin with? Anyone else postmenopause ever had an unsatisfactory pap smear?

Don't worry. I work in a Cytology Lab in a major University Hospital and we process pap specimens here. It only means that there were not enough cells on the slide to make any diagnosis at all. When the doctor collected the specimen she did not obtain enough cells. Nothing to worry about at all so you can breathe :goodvibes
