concern about AKL..

ok.. after hearing SO MANY wonderful things about AKL, it really makes me want to check it out for our honeymoon..

My concern is that the resort is too brown (full of *warm* colors), dark, barren in appearance to be fully enjoyed in the heat of early July...

Appearance always adds to a certain comfort level.. ex: Boardwalk *seems* cooler in July because it is full of light colors and is by water.. So, does my concern of AKL make sense?

What do you think? am I being silly?

it makes perfect sense, when I visit in the warmer months I prefer the resorts with the pastel, lighter decors and lots of water around.

I prefer Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge during the cooler months and nothing is more beautiful than WL at Christmas.

However I will say that AKL has a great pool.

In all honesty.... I've never thought about it. We LOVE AKL and will never stay anywhere else. The room is done in different shades of brown but it's not bad. It's actually quite neat. I would not let that prevent you from staying there.

I just love returning from a hot sunny day at the parks to the dark cool of the AKL. It too is my favorite resort and I just had to squeeze a few days in there on our next trip.

Your concern definitely makes sense. On my last visit, there were so many downpours and it was pretty damp, so it was great to grab a mug of hot chocolate and sit around the fire pit in the AKL lobby. However, I would still stay at AKL even in the summer months, and enjoy the pool area and balcony even more.

Personally I find AKL's darker colors "cooler" and more soothing than the brighter colors of boardwalk or beach club.

I stayed at AKL for the first time in June and I sighed with relief from the heat every time I stepped into the lobby at AKL.

AKL has so much going for it that your worries about color will cease to be a concern once you set foot on the property. Truly, if you are going to be on your honeymoon, I believe you might appreciate the remote feel to AKL. The hot-tubs are secluded and never very crowded. I think you will enjoy AKL. We went in August and I had the same concern! Dont' worry!

This place is soooo romantic-perfect for a honeymoon!!!!! The bus service is EXCELLENT! The rooms are gorgeous and the lobby is the most incredible one that Samantha Brown has ever seen (her words). The restaurants are so much fun and the pool is really something.

Don't worry about he warm tones. Going into the resort from outside you actually feel cooler because of the darker tones!

This seems funny to me... As I thought just the opposite. Iloved coming back To Akl after a hot day in the parks it just seemed so cool and relaxing. That evokes cool and calm to me much more than pastels. Pastels are art deco, Collins ave in Miami to me. AKL is an African hunting lodge. Wilderness Lodge as well darker colors and also inviting.

I also think it is nice to go into the AKL when really tired and hot. It is so relaxing. It is also very romantic. I think it would be a great place to spend your honeymoon.

We visited Akl on a warm day a few weeks ago and I found the resort very relaxing. It's beauty kind of takes you aback. The darkness of the resort is not a dreary type of darkness but very calming and relaxing. We have decided to stay there on our next trip in Sept.

I recently stayed at the AKL with my four-year-old son. He loved it, and dashed around the lobby looking at things. But I couldn't help but observe that this was the perfect place for adults.

If you want a Disney honeymoon, I can't think of a better place than AKL, and I have stayed at many Disney hotels.

I didn't feel put off by the theming at all! I felt like I was on safari! We loved it and it was 95 degrees outside. I will say that I found the YC/BC refreshing when we visited, it was just because the change of decor. I didn't ever feel like it was too dark for the warm season.

When we went to Akl this past Feb. and the BH said when we were walking in that it was like walking into a movie theatre and this described it perfectly, I thought.
We got used to it very quickly and it is very relaxing and soothing.
The pool is fantastic!! Good luck on your decision.

I had similiar concerns the first time I tried the AKL last August. We split our stay between the BC & AKL, and It definitely felt there were less places at the AKL to get away from the heat, but it's such a beautiful resort which makes it a very great place to relax. The fact the fact that it was so hot there in August, actually enhanced my experience. It really DID feel like we were in Africa!! LOL I'm not sure if it just feels hotter at the AKL, or if it actually does get hotter there, but the difference was definitely noticeable. Again, it is such a beautiful resort, from the moment you step in the lobby you will fall in love with this place. What a great place to spend a honeymoon, too.

Yes, you are being silly! So throw your concerns about AKL right out the window! This resort is wonderful in every season!

We love the AKL and have stayed 3x in the summer with a 4th coming soon and imho it doesn't feel any different than the other resorts. It is a wonderfully themed resort. Nothing is better than after a day at the parks relaxing on the balcony watching the animals.Well then again, it's your honeymoon. Enjoy it.

We just got back form AKL last night and it is now my new favorite Disney resort! DH and I were a bit concerned with the darkness too but found it fine and relaxing. The sliders let in plenty of light into the rooms.

I know exactly what you mean. I won't stay at WL, because it reminds me too much of where we live in the cold north.

The AKL is so suited to the heat, because it is supposed to be like the hot African savannah. It reminds me of a place to cool off from the heat of the savannah. It is really wonderful and takes you to someplace far off.
