Has anyone ever stayed at the Sagamore in Lake George NY. I was thinking of a three night stay this summer. Any feedback would be appreciated.

We went to the Sagamore this past August..had a wonderful time...just one of sons went with us (12 yr old)....there are plenty of activities...we went white water rafting and horse back riding...also at the resort we rented a boat and went up Lake George ourselves...also went on the banana boat ride, which was great fun...Saratoga Race Track is open in August, so we took a ride up there, what a beautiful place...and the town of Lake George is great, plenty of places to eat, and things to do....Great Escape fun park (which is owned by Six Flags) had a lot of rides, and across the street from the park they opened and indoor water park....the resort is very nice...some stuffy places to eat (no kids)..but other wise a great enjoyable vacation....

I've never stayed there (I'm an area resident) but the afternoon tea at the Sagamore rivals that at the Grand Floridian.

camp1007, the indoor waterpark by Great Escape hasn't opened yet, but AFAIK they won't generally allow day use, especially in the high summer season. They might make it available to day use in the winter for us lowly area residents but they haven't publicized any details yet.

We stayed at the Sagamore for a week at Christmas. We enjoyed it. We were hoping for snow, but unfortunately did not get much. We had a lakeside condo which was very nice. It's very quiet a peaceful there in the winter months, but I've heard the place is hopping during the summer months. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

We stayed there a few years ago during presidents week
We were experiencing some record cold temps & the heat was having a hard time keeping up.
Calls to the front desk kept us with an ample supply of firewood for the fireplace & plenty of blankets
The winter carnival was great & it was a blast to drive our car on the frozen lake
Sking was great at Gore mountain also

I live about 30 minutes from Sagamore...in the real Saratoga Springs. It is a wonderful place but don't expect disney. If you like outdoor acitvities, then you will enjoy the trip. It has a nice golf course and Lake George is awesome.

We have been at Thanksgiving, Christmas and the summer. Very different experiences-all good!

We love it there! Just a note the kitchen is not the same full kitchen as at the WDW resorts. There is a stovetop and a micro, but no oven. There are plenty of resaturants and some you can walk to in Bolton's Landing. For the winter there is an indoor pool (also for summer) and in summer Lake George and plenty of lake activiiteis.
We have also visited Ft. Ticonderoga when we were there.

I live in Saratoga Springs and have visited the Sagamore many times. It is a great place, you can't go wrong there. The views alone are worth it. As for Lake George it is a seedy, tacky, tourist trap. Nothing appealing about it IMO. It is a seedy bar town with no character. Think Myrtle Beach on a lake. The lake is gorgeous but the town is a no. Head to SS for a more upscale experience. Lake George is where you go when you are in highschool to try to get into the bars or for prom weekend. Quite a few NYC folks seem to like it,however. I steer clear of it.

We actually have a summer place on Sagamore Island (Green Island). I know I'm prejudiced but Lake George is truly beautiful. It is a crystal clear glacial Lake surrounded by magnificient mountains. I do agree with the previous poster however, Lake George Village ( which is 12 or so miles to the south) is a bit Honky Tonk, but Bolton Landing is very quaint and beautiful. It has more of a Cape Cod feel. It's a short walk right into town from the hotel. Here is a link that give a great description of the Sagamore and Bolton Landing I thought you might enjoy reading.

We have stayed at the Sagamore and love it also.
The drive up to Vemont to visit Ben and Jerrys is beautiful
We rode our motorcycle from memphis and traveled all around the area
The views are great and the robes are comfy

We stayed in the lodge suites at the Sagamore. i would rate them with most one bedroom suites I have stayed in. They were right on the lake. Eating at the Sagamore was excellent, one of the dinning areas does not allow children under 13 which is a big plus.

We are staying at a lodge suite for the upcoming Memorial weekend, using our DVC points. Very much looking forward to it.

In addition, based on info here, I booked 2 nights at the Great Escape Indoor Waterpark resort for Easter, hopefully the place has good crowd control.....

The lodge suites are nice. The lodges are in two different locations on the island. Some are up the hill by the hotel and face EAST. The others are DOWN by the bridge ( closer to town) and face WEST. If you have a choice request a LAKEVIEW lodge near the the main hotel not near the bridge. The view and location is much nicer.
