Question. I see people talking about computers and internet at resorts. We are staying at SSR in about a week. When you are talking about internet access. Does ssr or other resorts have the computers right there, that you can access your email or are people bringing laptops with them? If they have computers there to access, is there a charge?

No computers there, you have to bring your own, we take our laptop. In the past we used dial-up, the only charge was the phone charge to connect (and of course any charges for your ISP and long distance - we had MSN so had a local number). Lately, WDW has been putting high speed in their resorts, DVC included. When we last stayed at BWV, we used the high speed, I think it was like $9 a day. I would assume that SSR being a new resort would have the high speed.

My DH told me that the WL had a kiosk by the pay phones where you could use your credit card. He thinks it was less than $1.00 a minute. That was Sept 2003.

This is the one thing that bothered us on our first trip home. Why can't they set up a room with a couple of computers in it and members could sign up to use the computers for internet access? My husband feels with all the dues we all pay they should be able to manage that. (We rented a timeshare at RCI last year and they provided that service for guests.) We have a laptop, but I'd rather leave it home and have one less thing to keep track of. I did write a letter suggesting they do this.

While I'm not aware of availability at SSR yet (there are some computers in Community Hall at SSR though) , all of the other onsite DVC resorts do have high speed internet computers available (at OKW it's in the hallway between the store and Olivia's).

You may use these computers for free to surf any of the Disney-run sites and can insert a credit card to surf other sites and check email. There is no printer attached.

I wouldn't expect to see a completely "free" service available for members, since everyone's dues would be paying for the few who would use it and I don't have any problem with the current pay-as-you-go service for those who want/need it. Personally, I prefer the comfort and convenience of using my laptop in my room anyway.

Enjoy!

My family does a lot of condo visits (about 2-3 per month) and nearly all of them have a few computers for free use by the resort guests. I agree that it would be a nice touch for DVC to do this as well... and the cost is absolutely minimal.

The resort that I am staying at right now has 4 computers in a room off of the lobby. They also have network jacks if you want to do a high speed connection with your own laptop. Unfortunately, this resort does not have high speed access in the room (yet)... so I am using dial up with my own laptop.

Like others, I always travel with my laptop, but I think that providing computers is a good touch. I am happy that DVC does provide high speed internet access.
