Budget Board related because right now I cant take it in to be checked out-hope I can get some help here. I am not very computer savy so I appreciate any help I can get. States a certain file is corrupt and I cannot bring windows up
I would try restarting in safe mode and running your AV software. If you can find out what it is, there are usually great instructions for removal online.
*I haven't wrestled with a virus in a while. These would be the first things I would do.
Just had the same issue this week... turns out the hard drive was corrupted with a virus. Had to install a new HD. Didn't lose any data (pictures, files, etc.) but had to reload all my programs. Good luck!
Was the message something simillar to " Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM "? If so you need to boot up to the windows installation disk and try using the revocery console. You have a corrupt registry
Post the entire message you see and when you see it (is your normal desktop behind it?, do you ever see the windows logo?). Also, what operating system are you using (Windows XP, Vista, 7)?
Mine is the Hal. dll or something.....I ordered a Windows OS CD and plan on trying to reinstall that....my desktop is an HP and didn't come with the software or OS disc and my backup disc aren't working. I pray I can get mine fixed...not having my desktop has put me in a funk LOL
This! I had something that sounds very similar in July. Don't even bother with restore. I tried that and it actually made it worse. These virus and malware folks are getting very savvy! I was going to take it to Geek Squad. .. ugh. . .but my lawn guy, of all people, told me about his computer guy. I ended up taking it to him. He was AWESOME! He had it for 2 days. . .fixed it. . cleaned it up. . installed a new fan because one of mine was out. He also installed Microsoft Security Essentials and Malware Bytes and explained a lot to me about staying up to date, etc. I would say talk to everyone you know. Find out who they use. I'm soooo glad I did! Btw. . .this guy only charged me $80. . new fan included.
I had a virus problem awhile ago and went to the site www.geekstogo.com
and they helped me solve the problem for free. They walked me through step by step.
