My daughter has made a move with movie maker to present to all of the seniors on her color/winter guard team.

I have saved the movie to avi files, but it is entirely too large to burn to a dvd. The movie itself is only 26 minutes but the file is 5.8 gigs and it will not burn on the dvd because I think it only holds 4.8 gigs.

How do I get this to fit?? I have heard something about compressing files, but I don't know where to start and I want to keep as much quality as possible.

The movie is awesome and I am trying to hard to make sure she gets it on dvd.

Can any of you help me???? !!

Thanks,

In general, you don’t use AVI as final output because of the file size and compatibility.

She needs to render it and make a DVD out of it so it can play on stand alone DVD player (MPG2) or DivX (MPG4). Need to make sure that PC/Laptop or DVD player has necessary codes to play back the second one.

Need to check her DVD Burning Software, it may have the capability to convert and burn DVD from AVI.

How do we convert to the other file formats and how do I find out if we have the necessary codes?

Thanks.

In the DVD/Movie Maker program, when you click on Save, a dialog box will come up. There is the space where you put the file name (whatever you want to call the movie) and then another box underneath that lists file types. Click the drop down arrow on the "file type" box and then look for the other formats.

Since the file is already saved as one type, you may want to open the file again (the movie) int he movie maker program and choose "Save As". Thsi will bring up the dialog box. Give it a new file name (or just Jen's Movie_2 -- the 2 being so you know it's a different file type and then go tot he drop down "file type" box and choose another file format.

Of course, this is if the movie maker program does this.

The full version of Nero comes with a product called Nero Vision that will make a DVD out of AVI files. It isn't free but it is a really good audio/video suite.

First check what options the software that came with your DVD does, it may be able to render, compile and burn DVD.

I you don’t have that option (and never made a DVD before, but need something in a hurry) try THIS HERE:

As far as I can tell, you'll get "Free to try (3-use trial)"
It shouldn’t have any time limitation or watermarks. It’s a good place to start if you know nothing about making a DVD.

might be able to use the free trial to do the conversion. I know we have the full version. I tried looking at the trial to see what it does do and I'm not seeing info.

nero is easy.

I think there is a freeware out there but I think it's involved and you have to "demux" I think. It's been a while, once I found nero I never bothered with it again.
