Computer Quick Time problems

I'm trying to watch a video online and it keeps freezing. I've updated our QuickTime program and restarted the computer and it's still not working. I've tried with firefox and IE. The video will load and play the first few minutes but then it freezes and won't go any further.

Any ideas?

I've been waiting for over 20 min for an online chat with McAfee. They say that a rep will be available shortly. :headache:

The video is from our local school board meeting. I called the school district and they said that we just need the updated QuickTime (which we have).

I called a friend and she doesn't have any problems so I'm sure it must be something with our computer.

Is this a streaming file or are you able to save it locally first? Try to right click the link that opens the video and save to your computer, then play it there. If it freezes during local playback, is your computer older? Is it using the latest operating system, have plenty of memory, and generally fast?

Without knowing more details, other than it just freezes it is impossible to tell what would be wrong. For example, is it an HD video, streaming only, mac or Windows, and is it Quicktime specific or is that the program you by default have setup to use?

If it isn't a Quicktime file, use another media player to view it.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling QuickTime and it still freezes (both video and sound) after about 1 minute or two, always in the same spot.

The video is not live, it's from a meeting that took place earlier in the week.

When I right click on the video, a box pops up that says..."About QuickTime Plug In". When you click on that, another box opens and it says..."Plug In Version 7.6.7

I know that it must be my computer because I spoke to a few people that have watched the video without any problems.

I was never able to get a rep to chat with me from McAfee but I disabled it and still can't watch.

Our system is running XP.

In checking our system it says...Local Disk D 67% (Medium)
Local Disk C 22% (Low)

After speaking with someone at the school district office, she said that it has to be watched with QuickTime and it's not recorded in HD

I really am computer illiterate so I have no idea if this is means anything with regard to the problem.

I really would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks!

I taught a lab section of Windows and Office basics in college. I thought I was being smart and picking the nursing section of the class, as the students would always be freshman girls. What I didn't realize was there would be plenty of older men and women going back to school for nursing, and know absolutely nothing about computers. I had flashbacks to those days just now as I realize half my questions had a totally different meaning to you.

The streaming question isn't in regards to the video being live, but in how it is sent to your computer. Not worth explaining but the hope was to not have you watch the video from a web browser, but from Quicktime the application on your computer. A video played from your computer instead of the web stands a better chance of working.

If the video has a link, a button, or something that you click to start watching it... right click that. If the movie doesn't autostart, it may give you an option such as save as or save link as. If it does, save it to your computer and after it finishes downloading double click it from your computer desktop and see what happens. If that doesn't work... and there is a good chance you won't even be able to download it in the first place, I would go to some place where you can watch it.

There are a million things that could be wrong, and using an operating system that first came out 9 years ago leads me to believe that your computer just isn't powerful enough. Short of someone being there to diagnose the problem you might be out of luck on this video.

Unless you can post the link to the video where we can see it, then I can tell you other steps to try.
