Computer not connecting to internet

I had to call ATT because our phone line (also carries DSL) got cut during some construction. Somehow I got put in the hold que for their internet service. Part of the recording said something like "if you're having problems with the internet and have McAfee, do the following... "

Thank you, thank you! My dad brought his newish Dell laptop to me when it would connect to wifi, but wouldn't connect to the internet. I did everything I could (I have very little skills in this area :)), and then he called our family expert. Expert couldn't figure it out, and took it home to mess with it. I saw this thread, sent him the McAfee link, and he has now promoted me to "computer nerd"! It worked! :woohoo: My DH is always amazed how much info I can get from the DIS.

Might be possible because of some improper shutdown, the WAN drivers become corrupt. First try to connect your router with LAN cable if it get connected successfully means surely your WAN drivers has become corrupt.
I hope the OP found a solution in the last 4 1/2 months. :thumbsup2

Go to Start, then type System Restore. Pick the latest update and let it run. See if it solves your problem, at least temporarily.

Post is kind of outdated, but those things are still around...

I always go several restore points before the problem started. The reason is it could be Malware related and sometimes your PC will catch something "lite" to open up the back door for the heavy duty stuff to get in.

System restore doesn't always take care of that.

If needed run Anti-Malware scan but download it from a trusted source like THIS ONE:

We recently had that issue. I had to take mine into Best Buy. It even took the tech a while to figure it out. He had to uninstall and then reinstall something. I don't know what. When we got it back it was good to go.

I had the same problem on my laptop a few months back. After tons of tech support, one of the guys finally asked me if I used McAfee. As others have said, there was a problem on their end. They told me it was a bug with the newer version of McAfee and that although they have since fixed it, it was already updated with the bug version on the laptop. I called them and complained that once they figured it out, they really should've informed people.

I had this same issue at the beginning of the summer. Using my laptop one minute and next time I signed on I had no service. I spent hours trying to figure out why. Other laptops were working fine.

Long story short all I needed to do was press the F2 key and it connected me again. Happened 3 times and each time F2 worked.

I had something similar happen to me last summer. Turns out all I had to do was press the F12 key (there is a little picture of a tower on it) and it reconnected me to the wireless network. I guess I had accidentally hit that button and it turns out that if that button is off, no matter what I do I can not connect to the internet. I felt so silly as I had never paid attention to that button before.

Was a simple fix that took me hours of booting, rebooting, changing passwords and so forth to no avail.

Yes I did :)

Could you share how you fixed it? I had two computers bugger up on me with the Internet. Usually it is he icon that got Ed on the lap top. This time it's seems related to a windows update.
I had reset the computer to an earlier date then the updates. Now, I have the cable modem of ds will work, but my hard line from the DLS is not working. So I can not get my Verizon working, but the desk top will pick up ds's router which is cable.

No idea but the DL is not strong signal, I need th Verizon working!
