Get rid of AOL?

...But right now thats what I stuck with!! And now its working----------until the next time!!!

Yes, I'm having the same problem. I keep having to shut my comp. down. If I go in under Netscape I'm o.k. Seriously thinking of giving up AOL.

Have you upgraded AOLs recently? I know others that when they install an older version (before 8.0 I believe) they do fine :) Good luck!

I keep aol for my son but it freezes on me all the time too. :D

I use 7.0 and it's been taking forever to send e-mail. Sometimes it sends it and doesn't confirm that it went. Finally, I gave up on one thing and didn't send it out today. Where's that flame guy when I need him!?

All my AOL problems went away when I got AOL Broadband...no more freezing up, no more getting cut offline....everything is fast and smooth now. There is no excuse for the dialup problems, but they are behind me now

I installed 8.0 right after it came out. It kept freezing on me. I would be OK for awhile after I logged on and then would freeze up. I had to end task to get off AOL. I tried some things that were suggested on the AOL Help, didn't work. I did some things with an online tech, didn't work. Deleted & reinstalled several times, didn't work. So finally I just went back to 7.0 and everything has been fine. My computer is only 2 years old, so it's not extremely out of date. It's 1 Ghz, 128 ram, 40gb hard drive. It's a shame because I liked some of the new features of 8.0.

Debbie,

My PC is about the same as yours(capacity), and I installed 8.0 the day it came out. I have cable modem(RoadRunner) and I don't have any problem with AOL 8.0(GM employees get AOL for only $3 a month). I use it mainly for e-mail and IM's. When I surf the net I use IE, I like that a lot better.
AOL's 8.0 does have some nice features though.I like there "Companion", it lets you know if you get a new e-mail or IM.
So I usually have my AOL minamized, while using IE, with just the AOL small "companion" in the bottom corner of my screen to keep me informed of mail and IM's.

I'm dumping AOL on Monday. I start up Earthlink Cable Modem. I hate getting dumped on the internet by AOL all the time and getting way slow connect rates. I won't miss it. I only changed to it about two years ago because I was having problems with MSN, which I loved. With all the spam I get on e-mail, I report at least 15-20 messages a day on AOL. I have a brand new Dell - about 6 weeks old.
