Computer Experts! HELP!

OK, I came home last night and my desk top computer said this....

"Windows could not start because of an error in the software. Please report his problem as: load needed DLLs for kernel. Please contact your support person to report this problem."

Of course I dont HAVE a support person... Do any of you out there know what this means and if it's really bad or easily fixed at the local computer place? I cant do anything about it until Monday so any thoughts from you folks would be greatly appreciated!

Win XP? Win 98?

Kernel errors are rarely good news. Sounds like a virus/worm got to it, unless you've recently A) installed a Hotfix or patch, or B) installed a new hardware device (not likely), that might have corrupted DLLs.

You could run Recovery Console from boot up, and try to fix it there? Recovery Console ain't fun, unless you like old-skool DOS commands.

Sounds like a job for your friendly-neighborhood computer shop.

Well at least I think I found a computer fix it place I might like. they hooked me with their ad. Their name is some form of computer geek/nerd type thing and it says. Computer broken on a Saturday night? Dont worry, call us. It's not like we have a date or anything.

While the computer is booting, hit F8 and choose the option to boot from the last known good configuration. It may help.

If all else fails you can put your Windows installation disk in your CD drive and boot from that. If you are given the option to repair the Windows installation go with that. Don't go for a brand new installation unless you know how to format and (if desired) partition your hard drive.
