Complimentary upgrade with AP, what should I do?

I understand that one of the PAP perks for January is a complimentary upgrade (if available, of course). I am in a dilemma.
We are staying at HRH for 2 nights in a couple of weeks. The first night is free due some problems we had on our last stay, they comped us a garden view room. I wanted a Deluxe King, but was told I would have to pay $50 for the upgrade, which I did (despite the fact that it is only a $20 difference between the 2 with AP). However, now with the complimentary upgrade offer I don't know if I should just rebook with a Gardenview room and hope for the Deluxe as an upgrade, or keep the Deluxe and hope for an upgrade to a Club room, which of course is what I would prefer.
We are staying 1/26 and 27, a Th and Fri. night. I think our chance of getting an upgrade is pretty good at that time of year, but don't know if there's as good a chance of getting the Club upgrade. BTW, our last trip (early Oct., not as slow season) we had booked a Deluxe queen and were offered a Club queen instead, but that was because they overbooked the Del Qs and had none available. What does everyone think?

The complimentary upgrade with the PAP is done at the time of reservation. At HRH the price of a garden view room and a pool view room are the same hence the upgrade. You have the choice of booking either at the same rate. If you are booking with the APH rate I wouldn't expect an upgrade unless you know someone or something along those lines. I especially wouldn't plan on a club level upgrade but you could always inquire at check-in. HRH is the most stingy of the on-site hotels at upgrading to club without an upgrade fee. The one you received in the past was because they overbooked the deluxe king rooms and decided to compensate you for their error. If you want the king deluxe I would book it. Seems like it would only cost you $70 or so extra for your stay. $50 for the first night and $20 for the second night. Is that correct? Hope that helps with your decision.

Sorry I'm a little late in my reply, but yes it is $70 more (total) for the Del. King. I have decided to keep that booking, and maybe we will get lucky, who knows? I did call HRH to see if we could either: 1. Get a complimentary upgrade ahead of time, or 2. Lower my rate to the Standard but keep the Deluxe I had booked as the upgrade. Basically, no and no. She said that the comp. upgrade with the PAP was only from gardenview to poolview BUT she could not touch my ressie anyway (even to add my Loew's #) as it was booked directly through Mark Shouger's office. Oh well, we will be perfectly happy in the Deluxe. 4 days and counting! Thanks.
