Complimentary D23 Membership?

Does anyone know when the supposed D23 complimentary membership is supposed to be available? My previous gold membership is expiring next month and before I renew I wanted to know if it was going to be covered as a new perk. I asked the Disney Store online and they had no such record of any DVC discount for D23 membership. I sent an email to MS but have not received a response yet. Anyone have any update?

The Disney Files Magazine that was mailed out in November just said after the first of the year.

Got this email response:

We are delighted to have received your recent email and we appreciate
your interest in D23.

DVC members will be eligible to receive complimentary silver D23
memberships. Additional details will appear in the Winter 2012 edition
of the Disney Vacation club publication, Disney Files Magazine, as well
as on DVCMember.com this month.

look forward to future opportunities to be of service to you.

If you are a Charter Member you don't want to go to the free route. I was told on the Member Cruise that you will lose Charter Status if you go with this new option.

They also had no info out on upgrading to Gold so I just renewed..it's $10 cheaper than it used to be so still a bit better.

They give you two free APs every year.
I do not think there has been any advantage so far, but who knows what they might do in the future. They might send Charter members two special items with the magazine on the 20th anniversary.

If you go to the D23 Expo - there are special things for Charter Members. I think one is a special lounge.
