Complicated Ticket Upgrade Question

My DS will be in Disney for a school event. The school booked and paid for the trip. (well, we paid them and they paid Disney!) DS will be in a room (onsite) with 2 other kids and they each have a 3 day ticket as part of the booking package. All 3 kids share the same reservation number as they are all on one room/ticket package.

I will be in Disney at the same time. Also staying onsite but in a different hotel. DS will remain in Disney after the school trip ends so we can have a family vacation.

Here's the question - can I upgrade his 3 day ticket to a 5 day once I get to Disney? The challenges are I need to personally pay for the upgrade difference - it can't be billed to the original payment method, which was the school. Will they let me upgrade just the one ticket, since there are 3 people in that room on the package? Will they let me upgrade a ticket for someone other than myself? DS won't be with me when I need to upgrade the ticket.

Here's the question
1. - can I upgrade his 3 day ticket to a 5 day once I get to Disney? The challenges are I need to personally pay for the upgrade difference
2. - it can't be billed to the original payment method, which was the school.
3- Will they let me upgrade just the one ticket, since there are 3 people in that room on the package?
4. Will they let me upgrade a ticket for someone other than myself?
5. DS won't be with me when I need to upgrade the ticket.
1. Depends on the kind of ticket. (It is likely that the "school event" tickets are not upgradable.)
2. That is not a concern. "Disney" will know what tickets were purchased.
3. That is not a concern, either.
4. That is not a concern, either.
5. That is not a concern, either.
But, what IS a concern is what I addressed in #1 above.
And sadly, I'd put the chance that the ticket can be upgraded at less than 50%.
(But, you can always "ask nicely.")

Thanks Robo - sounds like it might be possible!

I think the tickets are just standard Disney 3 day tickets. I can login to his My Disney Experience and see everything - it looks like regular 3 day tickets to me.

Assuming the tickets are eligible for upgrades, can I just provide a credit card to cover the upgrade expense at the hotel concierge desk?

I am very uneducated with upgrading and adding days, etc. to Disney tickets but I can tell you I am very experienced in booking
trips for groups of children/adults going to Disney since I use to book my ds's HS baseball team and their parents when they would go every spring to WWoS to play in tournaments. For the group, I paid for a student(s)/room/ticket, not separate. Each student in a room (3-4) would have a ticket on their reservation. So, my question for you is, does it matter if it is a room/ticket combined ressie that your son has? Maybe your son's school did everything separate but I had to fill out paperwork and I booked with Disney Groups (well I really booked with the baseball section of WWoS).

Good luck, I hope you can do what you want to do with the ticket.

The fact that it is a room and ticket "package" (or not) does not matter regarding the ability to upgrade individual tickets (that are otherwise eligible to being upgraded**) once the guests have arrived and checked-in at the resort.

**Certain types of Disney-discounted "event tickets" are not eligible to be upgraded.
It is the "kind" of ticket that determines upgrade eligibility.

Thank you. That was my "learned something new" information for today :)

Yes.

Just call Disney and ask if it is an upgradable ticket. It probably is not.
