Here's a little background. My husband and I are going to Disney with another couple in the first week of December. We are all planning on returning several times within the year, so we all purchased 10-day park hoppers and plan to upgrade them when we get there.

I have planned the entire trip/made all reservations/fps/etc for everyone up until this point under my account.

Now the problem: The other couple is taking their family to Disney in January. Which means their fastpass window is next week. He just created a mydisneyexperience.com account, and we ran into an issue...

Is there any way for him and his wife to make fastpass reservations for January, when they won't have their APs until December? The current tickets for December are 10 days, of which only 3 will be used. So there are technically 7 days left on the tickets. But the other reservation is for a month later, which is outside of the 14 day window, so not do-able, right? We are both really confused and trying to figure out what to do about it.

I told him that for now, he needs to get the kids tickets and be prepared to make fastpasses for them, and worst case scenario, to copy theirs to the parents once we get there in December and upgrade. But that is obviously not a great solution.

Can anyone else think of something that I am missing? It stinks that they might be penalized for getting APs and taking close together trips...

Correct. Unfortunately, his only options are to purchase their AP now rather than upgrading their 10-day tickets in December, purchase tickets for January despite the plan to upgrade in December and save those tickets for a future trip, or wait until they upgrade their tickets to AP.
